Manquillo

Is suggest he's more if a RB than a RWB - better at defending, but doesn't offer enough going forward.

He is only 19 though, so he's probably played more than was originally planned.

He seems to have gone from first choice to third choice very quickly without really doing much wrong.

He reminds me of Finnan.

I think the fact that we have him on loan rather than having bought him is of some pertinence here too. BR might be preferring to develop players that are here for the long term rather than spending the same effort on changing Manquillo's natural game. There may even be some reluctance on the part of the player, who has probably realised that this loan isn't going permo.

It is a two yr loan deal with an option to buy? I could understand your rationale in the second year but not the first.

anyways, I am glad we went for a loan and did not splash 4-7m on him like Luis Alberto.

This IMO. There's time for things to change yet though. I take macca's point about him but I do think he has quality.

As a defender though JJ. Going forward he doesn't do much but frustrate - and he's not pacey enough to be a true WB. I do like him though and he gives his all every time he's picked. I don't see a place for him in the squad going forward as we need good/more CBs not FBs.

I think he's alright, probably our 2nd best rb/rwb behind Ibe. He's seem better at defending (good) than going forward, but he does try. He seems to do a Pennant - bombs forward then shuts his eyes and whacks a random cross into the box regardless of who's in there or not in there. If we could sort out a little more from his attacking, I think he'd be a great player player for us. I don't think he's that far behind Moreno imo.

Alternatively..... I know a pub that opens for every Liverpool game.

🙂
Ha ha I've been to 4 games there now but you are either

A. Busy throwing someone out
B. Not there
C. Hiding from me.

I'm leaning towards C after four visits and not getting to meet you!🙁

What games have you been in for.

Should let me know - I'll keep an eye out for you.

I was devastated when I found out I wS overseas when you where over.

Nearly as devastated as I was when you "had to work" when I was in Dublin.

I know you lost the Tayto debate that day and Ross nearly exploded when Saurez bit someone, then scored.... against a team managed by Rafa.

But...... one day -we'll have that "proper" beer session.

My other lasting memory..... is switching on data in my phone to Google where the Porterhouse was - cause we were lost.....

..... only to find out we were standing outside it.

LOl.
I remember looking down at the ground floor, seeing a Rafa lookalike and knowing for sure that Stevie M had arrived🙂

Liverpool's Javier Manquillo is the least dirty defender in the Premier League with 16 tackles for every foul conceded. (Talksport)

Reverting to the wing back system probably killed him. We have 4 better options than him at RWB most likely.

I like him, and I think Brodge rates him but he doesn't really offer as much going forward in that role as others.
