Is this the best group of Managers to ever assemble in one League in history?

Arsenal - Wenger
United - Mourinho
Liverpool - Klopp
City - Guardiola
Chelsea - Conte
Spurs - Pochettino

And throw Ranieri, Bilic, and Koeman into the mix too.

Can't think of a time the Premier League, or any League for that matter has ever had such a collection of elite Managers.

Ignore all the bullshit about "managers don't matter, etc etc" - that list above is gonna make for a fascinating year. Can't wait to see how they set their sides up in the big games against each other, the tactical battles, who doesn't make the Top 4, etc.

Don't tease. Better be chalkboard updates each week.

Yes, last season I wrote the same thing, but this season the managerial crop is even stronger. Other than Simeone and Ancelotti, all the best managers in the world are currently working in the EPL.

Who do you personally like, @Ryan? Ignoring the club affiliations, just based on the manager style and personality. Same question to everybody.

Claude Puel at Southampton, Walter Mazzarri at Watford have decent records in the past also.

I don't particularly like any of them, Klopp aside ov - but even then I have some reservations about him.

Mourinho's obviously a fucking arsehole, but his managerial abilities are unquestioned. I'm mostly fascinated to see how they all operate. Can't wait to see watch how Guardiola sets City up, the structure Conte's going to put around Chelsea, what Bilic does next, how Klopp makes something from what is (on-paper) a mediocre squad, how Mourinho coaxes workrate out of Zlatan, and then how they all play against each other in the head-to-head matches. Bilic is most interesting. He's the next 'big club' manager in waiting. If he can hang onto Payet, get a better CB pairing, and get a no.9 scoring goals, he could go anywhere with that side.

Tellingly, none of them are English (and there's no bigoted tone to this before we start). The best managers in the game are coming from European leagues, and the best teams in Europe. Surely that's got to raise the standard of spectacle we get on a weekly basis?

Better tactical battles, varying formations, etc. I think we'll see a big push towards absorbing-pressure and counter-attacking; that's Conte, Klopp, Mourinho, and to an extent the pattern of Guardiola.

Anyway, should be fun.

Personally I have a lot of respect for Conte. He is as crazy as Klopp in some ways, but perhaps a bit less warm and charming. Tactically he is not prone to too much experimentation – he finds the players and system he trusts and then only make little tweaks. He basically built the current Juventus team and brought them back from obscurity, but in truth they stagnated in his last couple of years there and his successor Allegri was able to bring out an extra level out of them – at least that's how it looked to me. However one of my best friends who is a life-long Juve fan adores Conte and hates Allegri, so what do I know?

I'm not so high on Bilic as Ryan – I would think Pochettino is the next "top club" manager (unless he turns Spurs into a top club... ugh, hope not). For some reason I find him mildly irritating.

England certainly has the bulk of the top top managers in the club football world at the moment.

It should make for a superb year.

It's rare also to have three of the biggest clubs all replace the manager in the same summer.

Usually you'll have a one but three will certainly be intriguing.

Shame we have such a shithouse start, I'd love to see Klopp start well and put immediate pressure on those above us.

Pochettino is my favourite in terms of style in England but I've loved watching Pep's Barca and Munich. Can he get City to play like that?

Jose will always be same, everyone will hate him but he'll grind out results with Utd.

Could be a very tough year for us, but then the last few bar 2013/14 have been.

Arguably the managers in the league are bigger stars and more highly rated than any of the players they are managing.

That's what I was thinking. If only the Prem had the best players as well, that could be slightly more interesting.

Good point, only Zlatan probably comes close to the likes of Mourinho and Guardiola in terms of star power and personality. There are no genuine superstars in their prime since Suarez left.

It will be fascinating to see how the PL teams perform in Europe this season. Well I'd imagine.
