Man Utd Dominance about to end?

That was the headline from that unmentionable paper.

Will Mancini plunge in the knife?

If Utd's end is nigh and ended by Citeh, will we be still in top 4?

Ominous times indeed.

btw, Citeh made the second biggest loss ever in their accounts second only after Chelsea without taking into consideration this year's massive purchases.

The supporters are being fooled and seems to enjoy it... Citeh is spreading theire cash and media is loving it, overhyping the players and beefing up the game.. While the real spirit (shown by i.e. Leeds and Reading in the FA Cup) is disappearing more and more.. The players are praised more for their pricetag and their wages than their effort on the pitch by media, and the fans are singing the praise with them... Man Utd have had this kind of hype for ages.. And now the others follows. Players are superstars due to their lifestyle just as much as their performances... And the fans still seem to accept it... So whpo cares about which club dominates in the end. it is just a moneytoy for someone with absolutely no soul for footie anyway?

How many times have we had threads about United's dominance coming to an end? And how many times have they come back to bite us in the ass?

Of course it will end. Nothing lasts for ever. Preston used to be a dominant force in English football once upon a time.

'Did' seems a wee bit sensationalized.

Without having dominated we did after all come in second last Season in the best league in Europe, whereas Preston probably enjoyed Championship mediocrity.

It's all bollocks. United are and always will be (at least under Fergie) a massive force, even with a fairly average side they have the same footballing philosophy and it works everytime. Chelsea have come and shaken it up, but it hasn't stopped United winning the title a couple of times, and the same will go for City.

The main issue is for the likes of us who are on the fringe of things and proven to not be able to put up consistent, sustainable challenges for the title. The main competition now is on the fringe of the top four, with Villa, Spurs and City there or thereabouts and capable of beating anyone on their day. United will still be the ones in the hunt in April.

Aye. Sad

From the sounds of it they're yet to be fully hit by their interest repayments. If they have to keep operating at a negative net spend it means it will more difficult to keep competing for the title. But there's much more to lifting the title than spending huge wads of cash and Fergie, to a point, and more so,Wenger, are proving now.

I use to think that too but now I just don't think it's true anymore. That's a very defeatist view to take but maybe also a realistic one.

Winning the league is all about having the best squad now... not the best first eleven. To hoard a lot of good players, you have to pay them well. During Rafa's time in charge, the two clubs in the top 2 of salary spend has won the league.

If Arsenal had a greater salary than us during Ged's time then that correlation goes back further for a few more years.

The way I see it Tinto is United were weakened strongly this summer and they haven't collapsed in the same manner we have. Which is quite the achievement given they've lost two of the world's best attacking talents and bought it in an average winger from Wigan.

I'm talking about tactics, outlook, motivation, instilling self-belief. All other criteria from which managers can successfully be judged upon, but often get pushed aside whenever money is mentioned.

There are "whispers" of the Glazers scrambling around, trying to re-finance the £700M debt.

If that's any kind of consolation ?

United still have the 2nd highest wage bill though and so, being 2nd is par for the course. Ferguson might still bring back the title for them this season but I wonder how they will do when City overtake them in salary spend and are hoarding more and more of the good players as City eventually will.

Ferguson's departure will be the real test. I don't expect the b@stards to weaken significantly in the league before then.

It'll depends on how Mancini does. Ranieri assembled himself a great squad at Chelsea and couldn't cut it, Ramos walked into a decent Spurs set up and failed abysmally. If they attracted Mourinho I'd be much more confident of them overtaking United because he's done it before.

As for United, they'll still probably keep finishing higher than us. So there's little to get excited about, IMO.

Chelsea arguably had and maybe even still have a better squad, and United are still giving them a run for their money, so the City spend is neither here nor there, teams will adapt, as they have with Chelsea. Everyone expected Chelsea dominance, and while no one can argue they've become a force, they haven't had it all their own way, they've just made the league and it's teams more competitive, which has been good for the league as a whole, particularly with regards to European dominance.

As Squiggs just said, the real test is Fergie's departure.

In his last season, Ranieri managed to finish above Ferguson in the league.

I agree there's nothing to get excited about... it just depresses me that if money is so much the main overriding factor, then it doesn't bode well for us at all in the next few seasons.

It's shocking to see how people think 2nd or CL qualification is some kind of achievement.

Shocking cause 20+ years ago, that would be considered a crisis.

in the context of our budget and City and Chelsea having an unlimited one, it's quite an achievement

They are trying to issue bonds to refinance. If successful, it is no consolation.
