I would have put Flanagan in my top three for a full scouse house (although Robinson is really a wool)
but I felt Reina kept us in the game on a couple of occasions, and commanded his box (apart from the fact he should have done better with the one that hit the bar). I thought Lucas had one of his best games, but so did quite a few others

I felt very guilty about leaving Lucas out. Reina isn't getting into my top 3 until he either signs a new contract without a get-out clause or apologises for saying he wouldn't rule out signing for the scum.
One of many signs of our improvement under Kenny has been the number of MOTM threads in which there's been a variety of names put forward, as opposed to the two or three names (if that) you'd see suggested after our games under Roy.
I have never put Lucas in my Top 3 previously and didn't on this occasion either but it is the very first time I have ever considered him a realistic possibility. He played well but Spearing was awesome and Flanagan/Robinson deserve extra kudos because of their inexperience.

Walcott is harder to face on your 1st game of the season than Daiby for a relative veteran.

That's fair enough, the way I read it initially is because you thought that they were fending off a world-beater in Walcott.
Lucas - Can't remember him giving away a single free kick ( I might be wrong) and certainly none around the box; consistently got a foot in to knock the ball away; good distribution and didn't get caught in possession; must have run about 12km and covered Flanagan after his early yellow. Then won the free and pen in the last 5 minutes. Not much else he could have done.
Spearing - I've liked Jay from the get go - don't rate him ahead of Lucas but his bite and aggression is really good to see. Strangely - since neither really takes the ball forward with gusto - the two of them actually compliment each other well. Spearing is a terrier who snaps and bites all game long while Lucas plays it calmer and covers more ground without the confrontational approach we do need. I didn't think it was really a pen but he got himself on the wrong side - about the only negative in his game.
Skrtel - Was really tempted to give it to Reina particularly for his save on Van Persie; thought the game was up right then. If anything I thought Martin became even more impressive when Carra went off. He does wrestle too much in the box but he's got the balance of aggression, pace and toughness which could make a very impressive CB for a few years.
Pepe was very close but his poor miss when they hit the bar eventually cost him.
Your point about Lucas not giving free kicks away is one I have made a few times recently. I cant remember him giving frees away in dangerous positions in any of our recent matches. I reckon Kenny and Steve had a word. Hope he continues in that vein because it wasnt good for my blood pressure
