Looking at their 1st team squad, a shaky defence and as many strikers as they've got midfielders, it's looking a bit uneven.

It looks like Mark Hughes is building a child's Football Manager dream team, some of the leagues best strikers, hoping to score his way to the Champions League. I used to do that and wonder why I got beat every week when I was having to play Zidane at CB because I'd sold my best defenders so I could buy yet another goal scoring machine to sit on my bench! At one point, FC Barcelona's CB pairing was a very, very aged Neil Ruddock and Steve Bruce.

I think next season is going to be very much, square pegs/round holes syndrome for Citeh, with some decent players being dumped on the bench waiting for League Cup games.

They've concentrated on buying star players rather than buying a team and I don't think this kind of mentality is going to bring them success any time soon. More player revolts and unhappiness despite the wads of money they're throwing around.

What do you guys think.... Competition for a 1-4th place slot or another few seasons fighting it out with Villa and Everton for the other European thingy (don't know what it's called any more)?

Goalkeepers
Shay Given
Joe Hart
Kasper Schmeichel

Defenders
Wayne Bridge
Richard Dunne
Javier Garrido
Micah Richards
Nedum Onuoha
Pablo Zabaleta
Shaleum Logan
Tal Ben-Haim

Midfielders
Gareth Barry
Nigel de Jong
Elano
Kelvin Etuhu
Martin Petrov
Michael Johnson
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Stephen Ireland
Vincent Kompany
Vladimir Weiss

Strikers
Craig Bellamy
Benjani Mwaruwari
Carlos Tevez
Ched Evans
Felipe Caicedo
Jô
Robinho
Roque Santa Cruz
Valeri Bojinov
Emmanuel Adebayor

Proper Madrid mentality, though their midfield is a fair bit better than I thought it was, their defence is still utter shite.

Jo is going back to Everton, and they surely must be getting rid of a few strikers, why the fuck did they buy Cruz? Unless they're gonna play Robinho and Adebayor either side.

It's seeming like they came into money at just the right time as they've been able to cash in on the unusual situations of Robinho and Tevez. Still can't believe they're getting Adebayor as well.

As for success, it's only a matter of time.

There's still 6 weeks of window. i think its a bit early to start threads like this.

Get the 'star' players signed up early, then think about the rest. Wouldn't be shocked at some big name defence coming on board.

Citeh fan sitting next to me reckons they have no intention of playing the same team week in week out (which was our downfall in the 1st half of last season). But will rotate as per who looks good in training.

They'll be fucked and Hughes will be for the sack by xmas if they don't try and stick to a regular sort of team in the league.

How will the players have any sort of understanding with each other. This little circus is going to be great to watch.

They will buy at least 3 defenders before the season starts.

AH! thanks for that 🙂

They will sign two centre backs before the season starts (possibly from; Terry, Toure, Lescott) and they will finish in the top 4.

1. Liverpool
2. Chelsea
3. United
4. City

south. I've spent a lot of time up north though. had to give up my season ticket because weekends were becoming a nightmare but in retrospect that was a massive mistake.
not to worry the yanks will build the stadium and wipe out the waiting list...

bit of wednesday humour there to ease the boredom 😀

City is definitely something we dont need but i'm intrigued to see how it will play out as another strong team to take points off our rivals (though they can take points off us too and who knows what will happen). I think we'll be ok as long as we have Benitez and Gerrard but not sure how long we can maintain our position. I suppose we neeed to ensure we manage a form of transition. I just hope City leave us alone and not tap up our players which is where Rafa's rants come in handy. City haven't tried to fuck with us other than gone after Barry and Johnson but they have directly tapped up the Chelsea captain.

They made an offer for Torres!!! An offer he (not being a greedy nasty cunt) dismissed out of hand.

That's something I meant to mention in the other thread, they're talking openly about basically tapping him up, would we get away with that?

I think everybody does nowadays, it's a bit of a free for all. The only person I can recall moaning about it in the last year or so is MO'N.

Oh yeah, forgot about that! 1.2mil donation to charity. Pub tonight?

off that squad list they are 2 central defenders away from a title challenge..........if they had a world class manager.

city will be at least challenging top 4 this season, in the top 4 by end of next season and genuine title contenders the season after.

no point laughing at them, that money WILL buy them success sooner rather than later.

[/quote]Nothing about that team, line up, squad, scares me in the least. Nothing.
They still havnt signed a striker i fear. They dont have any dynamism in the midfield, and only Ireland who will break into the box. Doesnt matter who they get in defence, it doesnt matter.
Maybe in being niave/optimistic but i think theyve got it all wrong. Really badly wrong.

The Riera/Alonso/Masher/Kuyt combination is hardly what you'd call dynamic.

Besides, they have SWP and Petrov who offer pace out wide in the squad. Either way, if they have got it wrong, they'll just spend another 100M next summer the cunts.

If Gareth Barry and City win a title before we do, there is no justice in the world.

But it doesnt look right to me this year at all. Top 7.

The one thing I will say is that I don't think that team/squad will serve them well in Europe right now, it's not very subtle or solid, and they showed last season that they've got no idea of balance, so with a shite load more attacking force, it's hardly going to change how shite they are as a unit defensively.

They have bought players not a team. They aren't ready yet to make an assault on the top 4.

They will compete with Everton and Spurs for 5th place.

Adebayor has asked for time to consider how this move to Citeh will be construed in his homeland. He doesn't want to be seen as a money grabbing bastard apparently.

Or else he's hoping someone else comes in for him.
