Looking at their 1st team squad, a shaky defence and as many strikers as they've got midfielders, it's looking a bit uneven.
It looks like Mark Hughes is building a child's Football Manager dream team, some of the leagues best strikers, hoping to score his way to the Champions League. I used to do that and wonder why I got beat every week when I was having to play Zidane at CB because I'd sold my best defenders so I could buy yet another goal scoring machine to sit on my bench! At one point, FC Barcelona's CB pairing was a very, very aged Neil Ruddock and Steve Bruce.
I think next season is going to be very much, square pegs/round holes syndrome for Citeh, with some decent players being dumped on the bench waiting for League Cup games.
They've concentrated on buying star players rather than buying a team and I don't think this kind of mentality is going to bring them success any time soon. More player revolts and unhappiness despite the wads of money they're throwing around.
What do you guys think.... Competition for a 1-4th place slot or another few seasons fighting it out with Villa and Everton for the other European thingy (don't know what it's called any more)?
