Liverpool centre-back becomes the first player to speak out after the departure of Brendan Rodgers

Mamadou Sakho has become the first Liverpool player to speak publicly since Brendan Rodgers was sacked as Liverpool manager.

The French defender has spoken of his frustration with the former Anfield boss, after he was let on the bench for the club's opening five games of the Premier league season.

Speaking to French newspaper, L'Equipe, in the wake of Rodgers' departure, Sakho admitted the omission from the Liverpool starting line-up had left him like a 'caged lion'.

"Let's say that during the short period when I was not playing, I was like a little caged lion who has not fed for a while," Sakho explained.

The comparison may go some way to explaining Sakho's conduct in Sunday's Merseyside Derby. The former PSG man twice had to be pulled away from Everton players after two separate scuffles with Steven Naismith and Romelu Lukaku.

"(Like a caged lion) when you open the door: he charges."

Sakho has also revealed his Liverpool team mates have made him a 'scouse dictionary' to help him understand the local dialect.

"If I say 'sound lads', now I know what that means: it means 'cool man'".

It will be interesting to see just what, if anything, more a new manager can squeeze out of the current players. If they do indeed all start spouting bad vibes about Rogers now that he's gone, they'll understand if we expect more from them then.

I've been unsure about Sakho since the day he joined. I still am.
Caged lion or not, I'd rather he played with more intelligence rather than aggression.
I wouldn't mind if Klopp got rid of more than half of our defenders.
I'd honestly only keep, Clyne, Skrtel, Moreno, Illori and Gomez. Can is not a defender.

Lions in the wild. . Markovic & Ballotelli back to Liverpool in Jan window, maybe?

A taxi driver we had in Liverpool wasn't a fan of poor Sakho at all. He said he picked him up from some plush hotel in town and was driving him home. Sakho hadn't been here long and the driver said he was no chat at all. The driver asked him a few questions but Sakho informed him that he had no English. When they got to his house Sakho prepared the money to pay but was short a pound. The driver who was probably initially expecting a tip was happy enough to just wave off the quid as to avoid embarrassment for our new centre half who was caught short. Sakho insisted (now speaking in English) that he'd go in and get the pound and be back. He was gone for what felt like an entirety before returning with the quid. No tip, but the quid.

Well there you go, a pointless Mama Sakho story that might not even be true.

I don't know what the general attitude to tipping is in France but, as Sakho hadn't been here long at the time this happened, I reckon it's more than a bit harsh to criticise him for that or for not having a lot of confidence in his English. Besides, as macca's pointed out more than once, Sakho's shown his true (and far more favourable) colours often since then.

Ah the taxi driver wasn't having a go at Sakho. I think it was a more of a case of sitting outside for about 15 mins when poor Mama searched the house to locate a pound coin to pay his bill. The driver was happy to waive it to get back on the road but Sakho was adamant he was paying.

Taxi drivers are all blue ILD.

This one said he was a red anyway. Just a random story to keep the 3pm slump away.

If Brendan Rodgers done one thing right at Liverpool, it was the face fondling.
He was a face fondling technician.

Still think he will become a legend for us.

He just needs a manager to deploy tactics that actually don't expose every single centre back that takes the pitch.
