Fucking quality eh. How much could we get him for?

Him and Virgil would be some monster of a defence

I did mention him as a potential after his performance against Man United. But I think you guys all mocked me, and then when Salah did his turn against him to score - you were all saying how shit he was.

Let England meet some proper opposition before you go all aboard.
That lad at Newcastle, jamal, is one we should look at.

John Stones is the one that surprises me - technically very very good, looks to have all the ingredients to be a rolls royce of a defender, but is SO mentally fragile. When the pressure came on last night his passing was League 2 "bruiser centre back trying to show he can play a bit... and failing"

I'm losing faith in you, Brendan. I used to believe everything you said. Now I'm just dubious.

Don't worry, I must have called him a massive-headed useless twat aswell.

But overall, I've been a fan. He seems really likeable too, and I like watching him trundling forward.

Godin has been bossing it all world cup and he's got a 20mill release clause, and probably 5yrs at the top level left in him.

Maguire was great last night and has showbil that he is a good player. Well worth it at 20 mill last season, but not at 50-60 mill this season.

Reason being? He's 32

Yeah, so he doesn't have "5 years left at the top level", especially not in this league, where physicality and athleticism are so important.

How many defenders 32 and over are performing at the top level in the Premier League?

Til they were 37?

Also Cahill turned 32 in December . Can't really claim someone who's been in and out the side was performing at top level

Also....fucking fonte?
He's thirty fucking four and he's nearly been relegated this year

He reminds me of Tony Adams....

Why Arsenal wouldnt be all over it if they wanted to recreate the Arsenal defence of old would be beyond me.

He looks solid as fuck.

Terry, Ferdinand, Carragher, Jagielka, Fonte, Vidic, Cahill

Terry, Carra and Ferdinand were all pretty much finished by 35, so I suppose that's three years of (declining) quality, but Fonte was horrible at West Ham and is now in China, so he doesn't help your case at all. In fact he does the opposite. Vidic was shipped out of United at 33 and Cahill isn't first choice at Chelsea anymore is he?

So, summing up, hardly anyone, and it still doesn't really add any credence to your statement that Godin has "5 more years at top level" given that would make him 37, when NO defender was still playing at the top level, or anywhere near it.

Last summer I consistently said we should have looked at Keane, Maguire or Gibson.

I also said Ward should have been #1.

Vida is what? 28/29? He's at his peak now.
