Scotch has no "e", Irish and American (*) have an "e".

Apparently whisk(e)y was first distilled in Ireland, but was used as a horse rub - it was the Scottish who came up with the idea of drinking it, which is why whisky will forever be superior to whiskey (though I do drink the Irish variants as well)

* I don't think the American crap even deserves a different spelling of the word, it should have a completely different name, such as "gnat piss".

Now try telling me this is not far more interesting (and manly) than discussing bloody pizza dough.

Wasn't Irish whiskey the more dominant product until the 1890s? So said the guide at the Teelings distillery....

Anyway, they are both nice, and frankly American whiskey can be pretty pleasant as well.

Get Haaland or Kane, I'm tired of seeing these midgets we have upfront not being able to capitalise on the crosses from Trent and Robbo.

The subs were shite as well. Why sub Milner?
Also why not bring on Origi who would add some physicality in the box. Or temporarily move Philips to the forward position.
We honestly need to stop this ... "why all the crosses" criticism I've seen appearing on the board recently. It wasn't an issue when they were creating all of those assists and scoring 90 odd goals was it.

Haven't read this thread, and I'm sure there's lots of doom and gloom in the previous pages, but I thought we played really well, and if our front three hadn't forgotten how to fucking score, we'd have won comfortably.

Football's funny... Mo doesn't fuck up that sitter after 2 minutes, and we'd have been in in the semis by halftime. Nobody would be talking about the mistakes made in personnel and formation, etc. It cracks me up how a few inches either direction, how one of our greatest goal scorers ever (statistically, at least) putting the ball in the only place that doesn't result in a goal from 6 yards, and suddenly, everything is wrong and we were shite.

We weren't shite. Our finishing was pathetic. But we created enough clear, glaring chances to win two or three matches last night. I stopped counting at half a dozen.

And to think we were all worried about scoring 2 or 3 but our makeshift back four letting us down...
Haha you should have read the thread because basically you've just summarised it 😉

I have no problem with the crosses. I have a problem with us not having a real striker in the box.

Chose not to watch. Was correct in doing so. Suspected Madrid would sit back and we would be one dimensional and just pass it around largely creating fuck all. Was correct.
No not correct at all. The only reason we are not in the semis was 'poor finishing'. Mind you missing the game maybe have been the best move as I woke my wife up with my numerous shouts of ... "you fucking twat how can you miss that" ?!

My loudest scream was when Gini put that chance onto the Anfield Road... You might have heard me from there!

That felt like the straw that would break the camel's back. We'd had soooooooo many chances to be at least 1-0 at halftime, and had that gone in, I'd have liked our chances. But that was the "We're just not going to keep making chances like these... We're fucked now" moment for me.

attacking and crossing with our fullbacks is fine when the other team is unbalanced or a pure counter attack, but we keep putting them in against a camped defense....that is a recipe for losing the ball, and we do it almost all the time. that is my main gripe with it
and as been said, we don't have a tower in there to fuck people up either

more intricate movement and play too, please.
we did try last night with Trent making runs with or without the ball on the inside of their fullbacks
sadly the last 20 min, we retorted to a quite narrow formation and looked bereft of ideas, and also very blunt

Our problem for some time now has been our conversion of chances especially at home, and it was the same last night again.

We've taken over 130 shots at goal in 2021 and have scored just 3 times.
One pen and 2 in the last game against Villa.

We need to change that stat quickly somehow or we can forget about top 4 this season.

everyone here really thinks that we all noobs know what to do but no one from the Klopp's team and Klopp himself does not know when to cross and how to score goals. After yesterday, I really think the only issue this season is "mental or psychological or unable to concentrate or be sharp consistently", apart from obvious things like injuries and the team is trying to adapt all the time to cover the absences of key players either in defence or midfield. So we do not have a stable base to build on to figure out what should be done in certain situations during the game.

There are two sides to everything, for example: 1. we are talking about refreshing the squad as players are under performing 2. On the second side, we would be shitting our pants if one of the front three decided to leave for top Spanish brothel clubs e.g. as it happened when Suarez left.

Klopp has never been in this situation before where he has to rebuild a squad which functioned perfectly well just a few months ago and he seems to be learning from it. I mean the biggest symptom of the issue is Klopp still does not know how to use a player like Thiago. There were 1 or 2 occasions when Thiago was asking for players to make certain kind of runs when he had the ball but it just did not work out yesterday against Madrid.

Only hope we can have now is, we use yesterday's performance to finish inside top 4.

This. I don't quite buy we played well yesterday and we only need to convert our chances and things will be fine. But we have not been able to convert chances for like 4 months now. I could feel better about it if this was a game in isolation. But somehow I don't see cause for too much optimism from a performance where we failed ultimately. This definitely was one of our better performances in the last few months. But there was this "I have seen this movie 15 times already this season" feeling by 50-60th minute.

People talking about Gini not having his shooting boots on. Gini never had them, at least for us - 2 goals in 40 games in the premier league and Europe this season. Gini missing was not shocking. His scoring would have been the shocking event. Salah definitely should have scored. But a freak-of-nature goal scorer is also allowed to have an off-game. Even if Salah had scored a goal or two, there is every chance, Zidane would have tweaked his tactics, been a wee bit more adventurous, put a little bit more pressure on our midfield and defense, and our defense would have done something mongy and gifted them a goal or two. Pretty much every manager in Europe and England now knows that we are incapable of doing a lot of damage with possession and chances and if they are patient, we will always find ways to let them back in the game. Zidane's tactics reflected that.

We have 7 more games left this season. Unless Salah and Jota score atleast 12-15 goals combined in those remaining games, 4th is going to be tough.

To be fair, I've only every tried the likes of Jack Daniels, Jim Bean & some cheap hill billy shite (once) .... and they were all awful. I guess that's the equivalent of drinking Bells or Paddy and assuming them to be representative of Scotch & Irish

We were talking whisky not whiskey.

Bradley typed it wrong (he also mistyped Jura), so maybe that is why you were confused, but I gave him the benefit of the doubt
Yep I spotted that, but quality is quality, whether it"s scotch, Irish or other. Also I needed a stiff drink.

The Irish traditionally Pot Still whiskey only which is a far more expensive method of distilling, and lost a lot on world markets as the Scots used more efficient lager mass production methods but still had a quality product. Also Irish whiskey is traditionally triple distilled making it smoother. The e was added to give the Irish a marketing distinction.

So what is considered a good Irish whiskey, Red Breast and similar?
In my view, "entry level" Irish Whiskey's are way better than Scotch equivalents - I really like Powers, for example, but hate the likes of Bells (yes Woland), Grants etc on the Scotch side. But when you get to the good stuff then Scotch (single malts) is way better and more varied.

If I had £20 to spend I'd happily buy Powers, Bush (yes, Woland, again) or Jamieson; if I have £50 to spend it would be on Tallisker, Lagavulin or even a Glenmorangie (if I want something smoother); I would never dream of spending a shit load on The Middleton (an expensive high end Irish)

Agreed, cheaper whiskeys beat cheaper Scotch's. Slane is worth a try in the "budget" category. Teeling do some decent whiskeys too.

Buy yeah, if you're going to spend, get your hands on a Talisker 25 and I'd challenge you to find a better whisky anywhere.

Have to say that Three Ships 3 year old whiskey is really really good - esp considering price you're paying for it

Yah that - I brought it years ago for 140 rand and it was bloody good.
If I ever get back there, I will buy more ... just a great deal.
The 10yo is worth a try and still relatively cheap.

When they initially launched they were selling at below cost in order to get people to try a local whisky. These days I think the 10yo sells for the same price as a Jamesons.
