Madrid get Real over Suarez swoop

James Pearce from the Echo says he's been told there is no release clause, which I'm inclinded to believe.

I'd sell him for £45M, bring in Michu for £15M, and spend the rest on other pimp players.

I don't know why I'm typing this because Madrid will not bid for Suarez. Unlike LFC, they value their reputation as a club.

Di Maria has played on the RW a fair bit for Real...

Exactly, and I'd want him to come in and replace Downing, he could play left or right. Of course we'd sign someone to replace Suarez, but from Madrid, I'd prefer Di Maria.

Guillem flapping his gob again. Get it over with already. 50M on the table will get my attention.

I don't want to sell but I'd be happy with benzema or higuain + di maria + Jese Rodrigues if he kicked up a fuss and wanted to go

Where's the Bayern, Juventus, Real, Napoli and Athletico bid?

Bidding war, come on lads - GET IN!

Uuuh fuck no. Madrid can get fucked, and all those clubs can all fuck off too.

Le Tallec, I love the lad with his moments of madness only surpassed by his sheer brilliance. He is currently the jewel in our crown but the reality is that he will leave at some point. Getting possibly 2 worldclass players in for the price of one is some food for thought.

No, winning the league with him, so their world class players come to us is food for thought.

Guardiola and probably Ancelotti are going to buy players and theres more than a few who will be made available. Remember Mario Gomez isn't even getting game at Bayern. Benzema or Higuain will be made available if Bale and Suarez both head to Real.

Barca's signing of Neymar has turned up the heat on Real and they're going to spend big to catch up.

Real can have Bale. Spurs sell their best players every year or so ... We should try and stay away from that, unless they're 30+ and we get 40 million offers.

I have a feeling that we'll get in a huge offer for Suarez that will be hard to resist and Rodgers will sell if told he can re-invest all the money.

Devils advocate stance...

Spurs have sold their best players in recent years and have steadily consolidated their position as a top team in England. Perhaps selling your best players isn't the end of the world if you have smart people at the top...

It makes sense, but they've just managed to become a 'top 4' team (albeit missing out on it the last two years even though they earned/deserved it in both) - it took them a long time to get that balance right, and that balance is basically Gareth Bale (big difference losing him and Modric). We have to be smart here - we have a excellent front 3 now with Sturridge/Coutinho/Suarez. Sign 2-3 good defensive players and we can quite easily hit 4th, or higher, this year. We really really need to just improve what we've built.

Guillem Balague:

Luis Suárez hopes Madrid will pick him to bolster their attack

The Uruguayan wants to leave Liverpool and the club are searching for a replacement. When asked by the press about Madrid's interest, he let out a smile.

Liverpool are preparing for Luis Suárez’s inevitable departure. They have done everything in their power, they say, to convince the player to stay in Merseyside, but he wants to take a competitive and geographic leap. Suárez wants to win league titles and compete in Europe at the highest level (Liverpool finished seventh in the Premier League last season).

Suárez feels very comfortable at Liverpool, who have treated him as their big star and have supported him during tough times, but life in England is not ideal for his family. They are having trouble mastering the language and are spending a lot of time at home, as Liverpool does not offer many recreational options if you are a footballer.

Suárez’s in-laws live in Castelldefels, Catalonia, where he and his wife regularly go to escape the eternal British winter. His main aim is to play in La Liga and two clubs offer him this possibility: Atlético, who spoke with his representatives two months ago to inform them they saw him as the successor to Falcao, and Real Madrid. They are not the only interested clubs. Manchester City are keen to land the striker if their move for Edinson Cavani fails, Juventus would rather sign the Uruguayan than Gonzalo Higuaín, and Chelsea are looking for a forward of his profile (what’s more, Mourinho is a big fan).

The footballer could have been named player of the year by the footballers and the press, were it not for the incident with Branislav Ivanovic (when he bit the Chelsea defender), which made him fall down in the estimation of many people in England.

His goals (he was the second top scorer in the Premier League last season with 23 goals, and scored 30 in 44 matches in all competitions) and his knack for creating chances out of nothing has made him the most effective striker of the year.

Súarez renewed his contract last summer and his new deal expires in 2016. His buy-out clause is around 35 million euros, which is not a prohibitive figure for a goalscorer for his quality. Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, is now looking for a substitute and is ready to invest in a striker with a big reputation, and knows he can find many of these players from La Liga that fit the bill.

While speculation grows about his future, Súarez has been relaxing in Uruguay, enjoying a few days’ holiday in Punta del Este with his family before joining the Uruguay national team last Tuesday for a training camp before the matches with Venezuela and France. When he got to the training ground assembled journalists asked him about the interest from Real Madrid and his possible transfer to Los Blancos, Suárez remained silent, but gave a cheeky smile.

"He let out a smile" suggests he was told to keep his mouth shut when reporters were around him back in Uruguay.

I think that journos reading too much into a smile.

It could be the smile of a low IQ, someone who hasn't heard the question properly, the smile of a bloke who has seen a someone he knows in the background, or an especially funny piece of graffiti on a nearby wall.

All as plausible as this guy's guesswork.

Or is it?

No paranoia here.

Who is this Balague?

Who is this Balague?

Have you been living in a cave with Osama? He is a football journalist that covers all things Spain. I think he usually has some pretty decent sources and he has been known to get a scoop or two but he also writes quite a bit of BS and I think this article falls in that category.

Or it could just be Luis' massive overbite sneaking through his closed mouth and reporters misinterpreting it as a smile.
