Not really Oncy, the manager had options, he could have played Poulsen, the player he signed or ge could have not sent our £20million CM player off on loan. It's all too easy to use Macherano as the scapegoat, we known for a while he's off and that we need to start preparing for life without him.

[/quote]The team will have trained this week with Mascherano in the side Anita. Hodgson does not tell the team the starting 11 on matchday. We would have trained and worked to play against their side with mascherano in the holding role. He and he alone threw his toys out 2 hours before kick off and left us scrabbling around for a formation we hoped would work.

I accept that the match prep would have been done with Mascherano in the side, but like I said we've known he's off, so relying so heavily on him with no back up plan is beyond poor management, it's pure stupid.

That said, we'd have been in the same position if Masher couldn't play because of a knock or some other more palatable reason. Poulsen looked short of fitness and match practice in the last game, so it's no surprise that he wasn't given a game today. That just leaves us with Lucas and it shows we're desperately short of top drawer quality in the CM position.

The club has known all summer long that the Masher situation needs to be addressed, however the bids haven't been forthcoming and the lack of funds have meant we've been unable to go out and prepare for the inevitable in advance. Hodgson has pretty much had his hands tied behind his back.

I wonder if the knock Masher picked up at the end of the Arsenal game contributed to his decision at all... an injury means he definitely won't get a move.

Agree with all that, but why did we loan out Aquaman if we knew we were short staffed in midfield?

N.B. This question is rhetorical and not aimed towards keniget

Mascherano may have done us a favor. It seems he will leave this summer either way, so maybe this provides a bit of clarity to the situation: i.e. our midfield is worse than ever, and was shit last year.

Shelvey looked quite promising in pre-season. Where is he at the moment?

Has he played for the reserves?

I wouldn't mind seeing him get a chance if things continue like this.

What's so frustrating for me is how Lucas has been around three players who are absolutely sublime in their own unique ways. And yet none of it has rubbed off on him, none of it at all.

No understanding of how to make a bit of space and see the outlet ball.
No understanding of when to exert effort on a run and push.
No understanding of when to go to ground, and when not to.
No understanding of where to tackle.

Shove all of that into a completely middle of the road athlete, and there's your shit sausage (It doesn't taste THAT bad, there are other more fecal sausages, because it's almost entirely filler).

We're likely going to have to play a lot of the top sides away from home this season without Mascherano. I hope Roy has learned that playing a 4-4-2 with N'gog partnering Torres and Lucas as the primary defensive midfielder is not the way forward. Although it's a lesson he really shouldn't have needed.

I am still baffled by what people see in him. Where is Ryan these days? That's not a dig at him, just a general query.

Hahaha. I'd love to hear from Ryan, but well played.

Ryan would rightly be pointing out, in some detail our tactical failures. How ludicrous it was for us to play the formation we did, which had our left flank completely broken, and our midfield completely exposed.

Worth a shot. He certainly doesn't play IN matches.

I have probably been one of the earliest, most vocal, and most consistent denigratory voices when it comes to Lucas.

But last night's 442 showed just how fucking diabolically shit the useless cunt is.

We need to get him out of the club, very, very quickly, and I'm hopeful that - for all that he is a genuinely mediocre manager - Old Uncle Roy will, at the VERY least, do that much for us

But he probably won't, because he's not very good.

I think I would actually have nearly any other starting midfielder in the Premiership bar Lucas. Thats how shite he is, and it's not about making him a scapegoat. It's just, he isn't a very good footballer.

I hope to God Roy saw enough last night and knows he has to bring in someone if Mascher is sold.

Lucas is the easy scapegoat here. Don't get me wrong, I don't rate him very highly, and we need much better, but there were worse performers on the pitch last night. Johnson was fucking turd, suspect defensively and making bad decisions offensively. Agger was raped all night long. He made me want Insua back for Christ's sake. Jovanovic had a fucking horrible game too, really bad, getting bumped off the ball time and again, or making really bad decisions. Lucas was just same old Lucas, the personification of meh.

Lucas would have to DO something, in order to do it wrong. He's nothing.
