Good 1st half but the whole team had a decent 1st half but he tired badly in the 2nd and still gives away needless free kicks in dangerous spots.

1 game, 1 start.

That must have surprised you given how little he's going to play this season eh?

A little early to toot your own horn just yet eh?

He was good first half but tired in the 2nd when we actually needed him and it was against 1 of the worst midfields in the league, let's see if he can stop Villa walking through out midfield like they did last season at Anfield. I'd still rather Allen in their ahead of him

Didn't see the game so can't comment on his performance but I have very low expectations of him this season.

Lucas was superb yesterday, everyone keeps going on about our need for some super human destroyer at midfield, but it's ridiculous. Man U started with Carrick and Cleverly, Chelsea started with Ramires and Lampard, they did alright didn't they?

Lucas' position, the holding role, is arguably the most difficult position in world football to fill right now, especially for a top side or one with ambition.

Can we upgrade on Lucas? Sure, but it isn't easy. The ideal player needs to be able to be a defensive shield while dictating tempo, needs to have a great touch and turn while being athletic and beastly.

I think Brandon seemingly prioritizing the central defense is the right approach. Lucas is adequate (and more than adequate once he regains his pre-injury form). Our defense, not so.

Lucas was excellent in the first half but was a fair bit less than excellent as the game went on, and those other teams have more quality ahead of their sitting midfielders than we have. When we're as good as they are overall, we can afford to take the same approach. Until then we need that extra stiffening at DM. I'm not in a tearing hurry to replace Lucas, but we're going to need better than him in that position to win things.

There is no DM in the world that stiffens me more than Lucas Leiva does.

I wonder was Lucas's lesser second half performance related to the change in formation,
We went from 4-2-3-1 to 4-3-3 and it looked liked there was more space between the midfield and the front three in the second half than the first.
I wonder if this extra space was exploited by the Stoke midfield three allowing them to control the centre somewhat and in doing so made Lucas look less accomplished

No. And dont start one of these witchhunts you bell piece.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

No witch hunt here. I was just wondering did I miss the boat with a username change or did someone start again with a new name. El Pistelero changed recently too I think.

Don't fret, I still have mad love for you brother.

Not a bad point.

i thought we dropped deeper in the second half, we looked to preserve a lead and hit them on the counter, Stoke pressed on a bit more, and inexplicably Gerrard sat beside him. Plus, everyone tired.
