Lucas is a class act. Barring a few rash challenges, I thought he did good. He's a few matches away from regaining that top, top pre-injury level, and once he does, I think he'll bring back the balance that's currently missing in our midfield three. We're still quite suspect at the counter and whenever powerful runners plough their way through the centre circle.

He's getting to be more like Agger, the aggression and standing up for the team. Simply love it.

*ducks*..... incoming!!!

He slipped back into some of his bad habits later on, but his overall performance got him into third on my MOTM list in Morse's thread. I remain of the view that we need better in that position (among others) to become title challengers, but it's not a priority if he can build on that display.

I still can't believe that some actually thought he was shit yesterday.

Good to see him giving away the first foul of the season after only thirty seconds. It was only five to one but a good bet regardless.

I actually loved the way he and Gerrard defended today. They broke up play superbly well and were wholehearted in the challenge throughout.
Gerrard put a challenge in after the Nzonzi incident that was fucking explosive.
Good to see the team man the fuck up a bit.

Tired late in the second half, along with every other player we had. Looked imperious for the first 60 odd mins though.

No surprise to me though, he's a top player.

All you Lucas apologists are just throwing good money after bad. Give it up. I will forgive you.

Imperious might have been a bit much but he was still absolutely dominant in that first 30 minutes. Went in for a couple of full blooded challenges in the first 10 that I thought would see a broken leg - looked committed to establishing an ethos of hardline, take no prisoners. If they'd been made by Mascher most of you would have been falling over yourselves.

Add to that the fact he was moving the ball around beautifully in the middle and final third there was very little to dislike. Not sure how many fouls he gave away but there were at least two from utter dives where he made no contact at all.

That's as close as I've seen him to pre-injury form. Just about our best in the first half.

this is his 7th season with us . Some will argue that shows how he turned things around and is a quality player . Others will point out that this is mainly over a period where we've been wank poor . The answer is probably somewhere in the middle ..so good enough for where we are , not good enough if you want to be a top quality team . But i forgot , you don't need decent mids in the modern game .
