Unless Gerrard is completely finished, buying another CM would be a waste of money.

Adam, Spearing and Henderson should be enough to see us through. Any money available needs to be addressing the RW spot.
I like to think that money is available to fix any holes in our team/squad.
Right now with Gerrard's future in doubt at worst and on borrowed time at best and with Lucas out for at least the rest of the season a top centre mid should be on our shopping list for January.
If Shelvey or Henderson are believed to be the future then it can be an experienced one coming to the end of his career who will fill the gap while they develop.

I'd trust Adam/Henderson/Shelvey/Spearing and bring in a right winger personally. Seems as Henderson and Shelvey have been used for this position in the past, it'll effectively be providing cover for the centre by freeing them up.

Arteta and Shearer were never the same either.
Van Nistelrooy fully recovered from his though....

Lucas will take this time to analyse his game in his enforced absence and will come back better than ever. Mentally, this lad is Superman. He set the bar high and will be more determined than ever to hit the ground running on his return.

Speedy recovery to you lad!

It's not career threatening. Not in the slightest. Tim Cahill did his while he was still at Millwall, and we've seen over the years he hasn't lost his spring.

He'll be back in 6-9 months. Psychologically speaking, ligament injuries are really hard to overcome, but the lad's gt the mentality to do it. The only cautionary tale I've got is that when I had my right ACL reconstructed a year after my left, the surgeon told me that up to 70% of patients end up doing their second ACL within 5 years of the first. I'm sure the club doctors will manage him far better than I did my knees though.

Get well soon Wonderman!

On his recent form it's a big blow, it's going to be interesting to see how we go without him.

With or without Lucas we need a new CM, so hopefully we get this sorted out in January.

(The strong, the mighty
The forces of evil can never destroy,
The power of the Wonderman,
And though the most formidable journey lies ahead,
Only one will prevail.
Wonder,
WONDER!
WONDERMAN!)

Uh, yeh, these haters couldn't get to where I am with a full tank of petrol,
Uh, my uncle used to drink a can of Kestrel when life got stressful,
Uh, what kinda person should you be when wanna make people to accept you?
Uh, what does it really mean when you dream of being famous and successful?
When you were born to be special?

Uh, yeh, and I went from the kid in training,
Bout 100lb even when it raining,

To the young DM everybody's ringing up,
Got 'em looking for a sprinkle of that 92% pass ratio pixie dust,

Mad thoughts in my head when it's blowin up,
Like, are you really big enough?

I traded friends for fans,
Cement for sand,
Raise your hand,
The Wonderman.

I see the bright lights shine in your face,

I'm counting on you to take it all away,
I saw the chosen one,
They're calling your name,
Are you, you?
Are you, you?
The Wonderman?

Bored of being nameless,
Bored of feeling local,

When you walk up in the mall and can't afford a pair of trainers,
Imagine when it changes,
Imagine satisfaction when you make it,
It's more than being famous,
More then the applause and more than any form of status,

More than the performances in 20 foreign places,
the reebok, Etihad, many more praises,

Amen, hallelujah! Lucas look what's happened to ya,
Yeah they love that attitude,

Brand new and improved, yeah.
And when the fans start grabbing you,
Show gratitude with a little brag or two,

Amen, hallelujah! Lucas look what's happened to ya,
Who can say they ran all the obstacles I ran? Look,
I traded friends for fans,
Cement from sand,
Raise your hand,
The Wonderman.

I see the bright lights shine in your face,

I'm counting on you to take it all away,

I saw the chosen one,
They're calling your name,

Are you, you?

Are you, you?
The Wonderman?

Come on, come on,
The stars are where you belong,

Come on, follow,

Your heart is gunna take you home,

Come on, come on,
The stars are where you belong,

There's no turning back from here.

I see the bright lights shine in your face,

I'm counting on you to take it all away,

I saw the chosen one,
They're calling your name,

Are you, you?
Are you, you?
The Wonderman?

(From this day on, the world will never be the same thanks to the force of Wonderman)

If this was set to music, with a kind of bell thing coming in at the end it could be a Crimbo no. 1. Easy.

What awful news. He'll come back even stronger.
I fear not Wilco
It's 2011 count, an ACL is not the injury it once was. Lucas will be fine by next season.
I half agree with you.

People are generally getting back to top condition after cruciate surgery, but it's never straight away. Skrtel is a perfect example.

If I was making plans for the squad over the next couple of years I'd be thinking that Lucas is gone for this season, and won't be near his best for the majority of the following season but he'll be fine thereafter. I'd feel differently if it happened to Andy Carroll though because I don't trust his work ethic or professionalism.

Remember when every pundit and his wife were talking about how farcical it was how many midfielders we had on the books?
I think that was just before we got rid of Meireles, Cole and Aquilani.

If his game relied on pace it might be more of a problem.

I can't believe that last three games he was actually very good and even had him in my top three, the this happens, I am a cursed

regards

fear not guys and girls, lucas will be back stronger and better. ACL reconstruction has a high success rate, and with the appropriate rehab he'll be as good as new.

Thank you Mr Physiotherapist! Hear the expert and stop doubting, Gene.

Is that not worth a double "regards" Vlad?

I think he should start signing off with a "regrets", the doombringer.

One thing even his critics (and I've been among them) haven't ever tried to denigrate is his attitude. If anyone can get back from this, he can.
Right on.

It's amazing though; a year ago this injury would have left many of us wondering if we could return him to Gremio and collect the insurance.

Now we are worried (with good reason) how badly this is going to hurt the team.

It's bad enough that he's gone for the season regarding the progress he has made...but what if he never recovers, that we never will see how good he could have been. I know these injuries, my both knees have been through that hell.

who meeeeeeee

Thanks for posting that Neil. I haven't seen any of the games that Lucas has really stood out in so have been taking the 'Wonderman' label on the considerable value of the people on SCM. That zonalmarking clip was great at highlighting what he has been doing.

We really will miss him.
