Liverpool FC said today a scan had confirmed an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in Lucas Leiva's left knee.

The Brazil international will undergo surgery and unfortunately be ruled out for the remainder of the current campaign.

It is terrible news for the lad.

It is also possible that we will never see the Lucas of this season ever again.
It is a serious injury coupled with a long time out of football.

This is really going to hit our chances of a top four place too. Oh how I wish I could go back in time and stop Lucas being selected on Tuesday. I'd rather have gone out than have lost Lucas.
 
In a way Lucas is the last person you would want to be injured like this, because his story is so good. Underrated, hated - then, despite the odds, through sheer determination he turns himself into a really good player. Is like a Walt Disney script. And it could still be I hope.
 
One thing even his critics (and I've been among them) haven't ever tried to denigrate is his attitude. If anyone can get back from this, he can.

It's 2011 count, an ACL is not the injury it once was. Lucas will be fine by next season.
