Lovren...

He was really poor today. Commented in the match thread it was like he was on quaaludes. Slow to react and dopey.

Hes confirmed that he is rightly behind Gomez in the pecking order. VvD and Gomez has the potential to be a world class partnership, Lovren and VvD has the potential to force me to throw my TV out the window.

Hes back up now, same for Henderson.

I have no idea why Gomez and TAA didn't start. TAA was great against Neymar and Co before and Gomez has the pace to match MBappe and Neymar that Loren lacks. Poor decisions from Klopp.

Lovren was very poor last night. Moved like an old oil tanker and the replays for both goals made me cringe at how easily he gave up.
Not good enough.

I can't stand him.

It's an attitude thing as much as anything - he thinks he's world class but everything he does on the field makes a laughing stock of that notion.

If he's so lacking in self awareness there isn't much hope for him. We only have two and half years left of him, at 120k a week.

He had a poor game last night - we all know he's got 'em in him.

But he's been 3rd choice this season and for that role, he's fine.

The main issue is that our 2nd choice CB was playing at RB (and not very well I might add) - that's on Klopp.

I was sure when the line-up was announced that that would be our biggest issue.

Given the lack of creativity in our midfield, Robertson and TAA are crucial to our attacking play. I think Klopp tried to be defensive, given that Trent has had some defensive issues in the past, but this simply wasn't the game for it.

With their formation, and Neymar's complete reluctance to track back, Gomez was getting acres of space, but did very little with it. Trent would have done a lot more damage, and we'd have been a better attacking side.

This is of course apart from the fact that Gomez is just a better CB than Lovren.

Well thats just it isnt it? Gomez is shite as full back.

So why play our second best CB where he is a mess and our 3rd best CB AT ALL.

Its managerial smugness and I hate it.

Trent is our best RB so play him.

He's bang average, at best. Cockup by Klopp last night I'm afraid, by playing him and dropping TAA. Shows really that he doesn't trust TAA against that opposition, or, he doesn't trust Gomez at CB against that opposition.

Its a decision that looks all the more bizarre when you remember that Trent was excellent against them at Anfield. Its no surprise most of our attacking progress came down the left where Mane and Robbo were linking up. Gomez doesnt play that role, hes not nearly strong as Trent going forward, as a result Salah was isolated and ineffective.

Its a fuck up, its on Klopp. Hopefully he learns from it and we are better prepared next time.

If Klopp doesn't trust TAA defensively, then he should play Clyne at RB.

If he doesn't trust him too, then sell him and buy another RB.

OK, but nobody has ever rated Lovren, and he is clearly not first-choice at CB anymore (I hope). But Henderson, while shit, wasn't alone, and who exactly is he back-up to?

The missing in action Fabinho, who seems to play in slow-motion at times, on the few occasions he has played?
Or Keita, who looks about as comfortable and confident in his surroundings as an Eritrean child soldier at Harry Potter World.

Much like the endless and tiresome Lucasphobia of a few years ago, this Lovren obsession is utterly pointless. When it's a team failure, time and time again, whether Lovren is in or out of the side, to fetishise his performance, or even mere presence, is close to being infantile. The performances in Europe this season have been alarmingly uneven at best, and, away from home, appalling, and that isn't the fault of one player, so I'm not sure what this kind of thread achieves except catharsis - and if it's that, it's sure as hell not working.

I didn't blame him alone for anything, Macca... He was not our only issue last night. Far from it. But when we play badly, 9 times out of 10, he's a big part of the overall team failure.

He's simply not good enough for a team that considers itself amoungst Europe's elite, in either ability nor attitude, and it kills me that he's still part of this team - I felt like venting. That's all.

You are correct...but i dont blame the players...it is all down to Klopp. I think so far all the away games he has basically asked them to defend and not to exert themselves. As a team we can defend but we aint the sort of team that has the right mindset to play for a tactical draw. The selections have been poor and strange.

That said maybe Klopp is trying his best not to tire the team out by January...and is focussed on league more when there is still a chance of qualification to the knock out stages with worse case scenarios taking place at the away CL fixtures.

That second goal we didn't even have a right side of defence. He was utterly pathetic and should be led to a galllows. Klopp should have to kick the chair away.

Klopp clearly didnt trust TAA at right back which is a shame as the detrimental effect on our organisation and control in the middle was completely lost. I hope we don't see this mistake again.
