So, you'd sell all of our best players and then entrust the proceeds to a manager who has absolutely no track record working with a large transfer budget?

That's insane.

Woy has got a track record: a shit one.

He was given £20m to spunk at Blackburn and paid £7m for Kevin Davies. And was sacked halfway through the following season with Blackburn bottom of the table.
Kevin Davies scored some Torres esque goals the season before and looked like the next Shearer..

Hodgson is clearly experienced.. may work out well..

ahhhh, but he had dragged them up from 13th to 6th the year before, and I see that the season he was sacked injuries were also a significant factor.

if gerrard went to real he'd be surrouned by world class talent and would be managed by argubly the best manager in world football, that isn't nearly the case at liverpool.

Similar circumstance applied for our previous Manager, one good season followed by one bad and you're gone.

It's a tough world for these Manager, patience is at a premium.

Roy Hodgson said in the interview he accepts that he is expected to do better than we did last year. So there's a clear yardstick and he's well aware of the scrutiny he'll be under.

I don't envy him. Just look at the pictures of Benitez when he arrived to those when he left, 6 years in post and he looked 15 years older.

The expectation will be a huge change for Roy Hodgson.

Well, congratulations for saying what everyone has been thinking.
Has to be done.
Mentalist.

and some "meh" ones before "the good one".
People seem to forget with this "good one" that if he had been just a little more adventurous against some of the also-rans at home, we would have won the bloody thing

To be fair he did win some trophies in the 'meh' seasons. This record glossed over the underachievements in the League but it's easier to forgive a winning Manager for a spell.

Benayoun set to complete Chelsea switch Share
By Simon Griver, July 2, 2010
Sources in Israel report that Yossi Benayoun will sign a four-year deal with Chelsea today subject to a medical.

Benayoun, 30, was at Stamford Bridge yesterday where he had a personal meeting with club owner Roman Abramovich before agreeing a contract.

The Israel national team captain will reportedly earn £70,000 a week and the Premier League champions will pay Liverpool a £6.5 million transfer fee.

It is understood one of new Reds boss Roy Hodgson's first acts in his new role was to rubber stamp the attacking midfielder’s departure

Benayoun joined Liverpool in 2007 from West Ham for £5 million and played 92 games for the Reds scoring 18 goals. Having started his career with Hapoel Beer Sheva he joined Maccabi Haifa before moving onto Racing Santander in Spain in 2002 and West Ham in 2005.

The move to Chelsea will make Benayoun the most expensive ever Israeli player, beating the £5.75 million fee that Celtic paid West Ham for Eyal Berkovic in 1999.

Mirror says Yossi's a done deal.

Yossi Benayoun was at Stamford Bridge yesterday ahead of his £6.5million move to Chelsea.

As Mirror Sport revealed last month, the 30-year-old Israeli is set to join the Blues from LIverpool on a four-year deal.

Benayoun is already understood to have agreed personal terms, believed to be up to £70,000-a-week and he becomes Carlo Ancelotti’s first signing of the summer.

Benayoun has enjoyed only limited success at Anfield since being taken there from West Ham by Rafa Benitez in July 2007.

I've never been convinced by VdV. Dunno why, just dint rate him.

Thunderfart certainly hasn't had the career you'd expect for a player praised so highly so often. You can't help wondering what's missing.

That said, he is decent enough and versatile, and could play in similar positions to those occupied by Yossi (including LW where he'd probably do a fair bit better). At least worth considering IMO.

Assuming yossi is definitely gone, & VdV is the same price & wage, then yeah, it'd make sense.

No thanks. What exactly has he done for people to still rate him so highly?
Played well. Any more questions?

For Hamburg and Real Madrid. And Ajax in his younger days.

He's not a world beater, but he's a good versatile footballer and is available (supposedly) for a very reasonable fee.

We can safely forget Hangeland. I read an article that Roy agreed as part of the compensation talks to Fulham that he wouldn't return to raid the club. We probabyly couldn't afford him at his suggested value of between 10-15 million.

Roy wants to keep all out top players including Mascherano. Roy strikes me as a wiley coach. He stated that he has already spoken to both Carra and Gerrard. Let's see what happens.
