Looking back: Daniel Sturridge

I have doubts. Our defending was diabolical. I recall watching us lose to a very ordinary Hull City side and that was the theme throughout that season.
We had the league won if Sterling's goal hadn't been called wrongly offside against City while he was a yard plus onside. That still makes me angry.

I'm glad he's fondly remembered. I also think he was in the borderline world class state at time for us, and it just kinda came from nowhere. We didn't really know what to expect from Coutinho and Sturridge signings - just that they cost peanuts and has some talent, but it was clear right away that they were going to be transformational signings. If memory serves correctly Sturridge adapted extremely quickly to playing as a striker for us after being pissed off at being a wide man at City and Chelsea, who surely must have been kicking themselves at not backing him to succeed.

Watching a fit and firing Daniel Sturridge play was a real pleasure. His talent deserved a better body than the one he was given.

There was no goal - the whistle had gone before he’d taken the shot.
