At the time I was feeling fed up and frustrated with Sturridge’s constant injuries, but now looking back you have to say he was one of the most complete strikers we’ve had in the last 20 years. It’s rare you have someone with explosive pace, ability to interplay with teammates AND a true poacher’s finishing ability all in one package. No wonder Klopp rated him so highly - even after his pace was gone, his finishing alone still made him valuable. Had it not been for the injuries, he may well have been remembered as one of our greatest strikers.

He was awesome. Some of his goals were out of this world. You couldn't even see Suarez or Salah scoring those. They would come out of the blue, just when you thought the game was lost, then boom. I was just saddened by his injuries.

Oh and he never clamoured to be the top dog, or the main man. Just worked for the team.

He was alright until he opened his gob.

That's when i kinda lost some respect for him. Not all, but some.

He's someone who thinks he's funny, always clowning about but nobody had the courage to tell him to his face to shut it.

Superb footballer. I wasn't behind the signing when it was first mooted because of his chequered history, but fair play to Brendan Rodgers - he believed in the guy, the Studge responded tremendously well and he did us proud more often than not, injuries notwithstanding. Still a true Red now BTW.

Daniel Sturridge YNWA.

Great player. The Suarez "inspired" title challenge could have been reframed as the Sturridge initiated title challenge. The first seven games, when Suarez was suspended, Sturridge kept us going. When Suarez exploded once he came back, Sturridge was in the background making vital assists, goals, etc.

Yep - agree with all of the above. He was a fantastic striker. Technically very good and him alongside Suarez was a sight to see. What’s he up to now? Retired?

People forget that when suarez was suspended for the start of the season he was carrying us with his goals. He was so good, and as has been said the complete striker. Sadly the one element of his game that hindered him was his injuries. Do you remember it was the triple S partnership with sterling, suarez, sturridge

Damn near won us the title. Shame the defending was as bad as it could ever be.

I remembered being ridiculed when we signed Coutinho and Sturridge and saying they could propel us to a title challenge, amazing player whose body let him down time and time again.

His attitude wasn’t great either from everything I’ve read but technically a superb player heading aside.

I love Sturridge and he did great but this is a little stretched to say the least.

Suarez missed 5 games not 7. The first three we scraped 1-0 wins including a penalty save from Ming on the opening day. Sturridge scored the winner in each (including beating a Utd, a game Sturridge had to be convinced to play according to Gerrard) Then we draw the next game away 2-2 after leading 2-0 vs Swansea. We then lost at home to Southampton 1-0 (Lovern the bastard) and dropped to 5th and looked nowhere near title challengers. Suarez scored twice on his return away to Sunderland next game out and transformed us. We went from averaging 1.2 goals per game before Luis’s return to averaging 2.9 goals a game for the next 33 til the end of the season.

That season was all about Suarez and the best individual striker season the league has ever seen finishing with 31 (mostly outrageous) goals from 33 games.

I’ve no doubt if Suarez started the season we win the league.
Sturridge like Sterling and Gerrard were great supporting actors.

Just an incredibly natural finisher, arguably the best since God. Loved watching him play when he was in that side with Gerrard, Suarez, Countinho and Sterling. A truly frightening attacking lineup

If we’re going to critique his game under a microscope, one could say he was a bit one-footed, heading not particularly good (even though he did score some) and hold-up play rather average. But all of these relative shortcomings could be easily mitigated by tactics - there is no need to use him as a target man when he can give you so much if you play to his strengths.

Probably my biggest surprise when I first saw him play for us was how sharp his interplay with teammates was, his ability to time a pass and just general awareness of things going around him - this is the quality that differentiated him from lots of other quick strikers in the league and put him potentially in a world-class territory. He was a great partner for Suarez because football intelligence-wise they both operated on the same wavelength.

Let’s not forget the iconic celebration too.

I have doubts. Our defending was diabolical. I recall watching us lose to a very ordinary Hull City side and that was the theme throughout that season.

"I remembered being ridiculed when...."

Poor Dreamy could open any statement or conversation with these words.

I can’t believe next year is a decade since 13-14, and Daniel Sturridge js now nostalgia.

Looking back he definitely added a lot, and will always love his chip against Fulham in 2013.

Weird, its the one against West Brom that stands out for me... Never seen a goal quite like that.

A whisker and a better body away from being the ultimate was Sturridge. Power, pace, finishing, everything you want. That season-and-a-bit he was awesome, had have been able to replicate that season-on-season, we'd have been talking about one of our very best. He might not have played for us though if that'd been the case. Who knows? Good player.
