This could be the first Olympics where more drugs tests are failed after the closing ceremony than after the actual events

So a few people are starting to claim this as the greatest modern olympics . I must admit everything seems to have gone off without much of a hitch and the backdrop for some of the venues were brilliant but lets be honest , would people be claiming this if Great Britain didn't have such a great medal return ?

Actually mate, I would. I still cringe when I remember the Euro 1996 ceremonies - horrendously amateurish. I can't quite believe we pulled this off as an event and I'm quite thrilled, and would have been if GB had won half as many medals.

You missed One Direction mate

and Jessie J's arse....

I booed...

As I said on Facebook last night. I have no idea who Jessie J is & don't want to find out.

I can just about tolerate Tinie Tempah. Dunno who the other dude with them was.

It was an amazingly shite ceremony last night.

So Israel is still the only country in the world with more Nobel prizes (11) than Olympic medals (7). Losers.

You're not completely alone:

'Israel is one of six countries in the world with more Nobel prizes (10) than Olympic medals (7). The others are Myanmar, Guatemala, East Timor, Yemen, Bangladesh, and St Lucia. And of those countries, it looks like Israel has the most of both'.

We have fwiends! 🙂

The Olympics have been wonderful.

I think Britain is a country that needs constant reminding of how great it is to combat that dark, inherent cynicism that runs through must of us, and events like the Olympics has certainly done that. Everything has run smoothly. The volunteers were fantastic. The fans have been brilliant. Anyone who had anything to do with the Olympics should be very proud of themselves. But mostly I'm glad that our athletes got the rewards they deserved, their moment in the spotlight to showcase their talent to billions of people.

The IOC chief was spot on by calling these Olympics 'refreshing'.

Christ I just watched (well the first 20 seconds of) "Don't stop me now by Team GB" ..

What a load of fucking cringe worthy horseshit that is.

They just couldn’t let it fucking lie could they?! It's ruined the whole of the Olympics for me.

That's just something people from small insignificant countries bring up after they've failed.

That said I was impressed greatly by Katie Taylor.

Well, actually, it was Irelands joint best Olympics in terms of amount of medals won. So, no, Ireland didn't fail.

I think the medal total is pretty much solely down to money spent on sports anyway. The more you invest in sport, the more medals you win.
