I reckon Matip will play and if he does, the team picks itself.

Alisson

Trent
Matip
Fab
Robbo

Hendo
Gini
Thiago

Salah
Firmino
Mane

Love to see us mix things up and play Shaq but it won't happen. He might come on though. Really need Jota back soon.

If Matip does make it back in time for this game I think there is an argument for pushing Fabinho back into midfield. Utd play mostly on the counter, leaving the CBs unoccupied for long spells in the game, when they do break out its goes through Pogba and Fernandes in the middle. Cant help feel we'd have more success in breaking up those counters at the source than we would leaving it to the last line of the defence.

A midfield of Fabinho, Henderson and Gini has the stamina and muscularity to snuff out Utds threat from deep and get us the turnovers we need to get at their back 4 with space to attack.

I'm not against playing Fabinho in midfield, but who in that midfield is better than Thiago?

We’re at home against a team that is highly defensive in big games and tends to choke.

No way should we be playing for anything but a convincing win here. Thiago’s a must-have to pick this lot apart.

My concern with Thiago is how sharp he is. This is going to be a very physical contest, Utd will be agressive, cynical and very direct. He spent two and a half months injured, and he started 1 game before that injury. Its not like hes had a huge amount of time to play himself into an understanding with the other players. Without Fabinho in midfield we dont have a dedicated top class DM and I think we will need one.

If we were to be a goal up at half time Id absolutely bring him on and shift Fabinho into the back 4, let him pass them to death and exploit the space. But I think giving Utd a foothold in midfield to launch their counter attacks is very dangerous.

He isn't gonna get much sharper if we don't play him. Ideally both Fabinho and Thiago should start in midfield together.

We're going to play 4231 with Henderson & Thiago as the 2 in midfield, attack of Shaq, Frim, Sadio and mo at no. 9

Ideally one of the midfield will mark and press Bruno out of the game. Suspect that will be a job for Gini, but that pressing/marking role is one that Naby has done well in recent big games.

In their game against high energy Leeds they played Fred, McTominay & James for their energy and ability to counter press. I wonder if they'd start the same against us with the aim of tiring us (and themselves) out before deploying more threatening players like Greenwood late on.

This might be the closest match up we've had with United for years - hoping for a big performance.

If Matip makes it...Hendo Thiago Gini...if he doesn't Hendo alongside Fabio..with Thiago Gini Milner in mid.

If the Boss wants Hendo in Mid and Matip doesn't make it who partners Fabio..?

Can he risk Rhys Williams knowing United have pace on the counter.

Are y'all mad? There is no way Shaq is starting ahead of Gini in this game.

Gini is a well known "homer", and he turns up in the big games at home. He will and should start. Shaq will be an impact player off the bench for us.

Gini turns up when everyone else turns up. Cunt is some kind of ability chameleon. IF he's surrounded by shite he's shite, when he's surrounded by tip top form he plays a worldy

Shaqiri deserves at least 30 minutes if we're not leading and have control of the game. Klopp would be mental to keep him on the bench until 80 minutes.

Hang on ... you took something I said, about football, seriously?? There's a first time for everything I suppose, but I should advise that your seriousness was misplaced. I haven't a notion of how we should line up, but I trust Jurgen to be better placed than I am anyway.

Unless of course you were referring to the more learned folks who agreed with me ... in which case, be my guest.
