No doubt most are oblivious to Lovren and Lucas on their returns to the side having really good games.

Lucas taking up very good positions in front of the back 4 and using the ball well

Lucas has been very good. Positioning, tackling, blocking & heading to intercept their long ball tactics.

It's the last half an hour of a game I worry about lucas, or when he ends up one on one with someone & risks being turned or having to foul to stop a run on goal.

In all fairness Lucas is having an easy time on the pitch, he's just doing clean up and distributing. But like I said, imagine if we had a younger more dynamic player in that position. Would pretty much fix our midfield.

It makes no sense. If his arm isn't there it hits his chest. He made no movement with the arm to effect the ball. Short of amputation I don't know how a player can stop that.

Flap his arms in the air, then we could listen to Jamie tell us how dangerous that is

Great first half. Game should be out of sight and they should be playing with ten men after Barkley challenge. Just hope we can take our chances attacking the kop.

two awesome finishes

stick two men on the post and kick zonal marking into touch

Barkley should be off

we need the next goal to kill this one off and we need to hope koeman continues to under utilise lukaku in this match

oh and Lucas - crack on , simple yet effective.
im not sure if wijanldum is doing some covert unsung work or fuck all and cans first touch , jeez , the man is a magnet for challenges

Ref has been far too lenient. Everton should have at least one red card. We've done pretty well so far. The defence has looked solid. Predictably the midfield doesn't look right but the performances of Coutinho and Mane have negated that. We need to keep our heads early on the second half and exploit the space in attacking areas. Coutinho and Mane should be able to grab some more goals here.

Decent first half.

The midfield seems to be clicking, need more from Wijnaldum though. Can doing a lot of running and Lucas is doing a decent job covering.

Firmino is a bit anonymous.

Lucas Leiva half in numbers:
Passes 41/49.
Forward passes 26/34
Ball recoveries 5
Tackles 7/8
Interceptions 3
Assists 1

Firmino has been shite, not anonymous. First touch hasn't worked all game, he's given it away more than any other player, & when he's tried to do a cross, or pass, or dribble, or anything else to create something, it's been almost embarrassing.

Agreed just a shame when he actually has a very good game it gets ignored as I'm sure his biggest ditractors will do again today

I thought Firmino's done well against their back 3. Buzzing around and holding up the ball well. A little poor on the final ball but can't fault much else.

Good players make it look easy, he has read the game extremely well and cut off a lot supply to Lukaka. Preventing him receiving the ball facing forward id half the battle as he's extremely hard to stop when running at the defense with the ball at his feet.

I don't think anyone ignores it Pat, they're just usually reluctant to give his fans any more reason to bang on about him. No matter how well he plays he shouldn't be in a position to be a regular starter for us cos he will never be able to replicate it consistently anymore for a number of very good reasons.

Agreed. Hence why I mentioned his positioning, he's ensured he's in the right place to cut that ball out consistently.

This, this and this again. Extremists on both sides of this debate have to take equal responsibility for rattling each other's chains.

No changes so far, cant see how Firmino gets more than 10 minutes to prove hes got something to offer here
