Joe Cole to play some part...

Roy Hodgson has confirmed Joe Cole will make his Liverpool debut in Sunday’s pre-season friendly with Borussia Moenchengladbach – a match you can watch exclusively live online.

Liverpool's No.10 will play some part of the match which is a repeat of the 1977 European Cup final.

The Reds boss also confirmed Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher will also be given their first outing of pre-season.

"Yes they will be involved," Hodgson told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"It's a friendly game so I can control the amount of time they play.

"In competitive games we only have three substitutes to use, so it's very dangerous to put players on the field who don't have 90 minutes in their legs."

Sign up for an e-Season Ticket in time to watch Cole's debut live with our coverage starting from 12.30pm on Sunday.

You can also listen to live audio commentary online with Kop favourite Alan Kennedy, and the match kicks-off at 1.30pm.

If you've never signed up for an e-Season Ticket before then there's never been a better time as we look forward to bringing you the first matches of the Roy Hodgson reign live and exclusive online.

Borussia Moenchengladbach

Just looking at that name gives me wood! To all Reds over 40 Borussia Moenchengladbach will be a name that will live with us to our dying day.

The memory of Kevin Keegan (who had tortured the West Germany captain Vogts all evening) charging into the penalty area with Vogts trailing in his wake is as vivid now as it was 33 years ago.

It is, but I also go back four years earlier to the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final (as it then was) when we beat them 3-2 over two legs. We led 3-0 from the first leg at home, but they took a 2-0 lead in the return and we then kicked seven kinds of sh!te out of them to seal the win. I was working in Germany at the time, and wondered what reception I'd get the morning after the second leg, but I needn't have worried. The Gladbach supporters said that their lot would have tried to do exactly the same if the position had been reversed, and that we were just better at it. Respect.

I listened to the second half of that game on radio (hard to believe it wasn't televised live) and it is still the longest 45 minutes of my entire life. How Borussia never scored another goal is beyond me, Gunther Netzer and Jupp Henckyes destroyed us that day but we held on.

Barry Davies commentary for Smiths header in one of the best ever.

Was it really a pen though? I've never looked closely enough, but it seems to just drives past him then runs out of space?

And their keeper had tracksuit bottoms on 😉

My memory of 77 is of the semifinal with St Etienne at Anfield. Walking around the garden with a big lump of a radio on my shoulder trying to hear BBC Mersyside on medium wave. Pure torture

St. Etienne was the quarters I believe 😉

Well whatever. I think you get my meaning

We've spoken about this before mate.
They just can't be trusted. Not for a second.

The best match I've ever been to, look at the crowd, I was in there (yes, I used to have hair that long too) - it was just insane when Fairclough scored the winner !

Anfield St Etienne

Nice, which stand were you in? It seems after the Fairclough goal everyone ended up somewhere completely different to where they were stood before!

Main stand - too far back but great view, it didn't matter when that goal went in .... it was pandemonium ! My mates bailed at the last minute so I ended up going by myself .... ha did they regret that the next day !

According to Rory Smith, 16 year old Suso, the Spanish lad we signed from Cadiz will be in the squad. He has been excellent so far for the reserves, and trained yesterday with the first team. He certainly impressed in that session.

There's certainly a buzz around our young prospects at the moment. It might just be that Dalglish is being given his head more on putting young talent forward. That and the positive impact of the excellent Borelo since he's arrived.

It'd be great if we have the likes of Kelly, Ayala, Pacheco and Suso as regulars in the first team squad this season, with Sterling making waves in the reserves.

What position does Suso play?

Shelvey's 🙂

I think he's a midfielder Bunny.

Most of the first team players didn't even know who he was, but he impressed quite a few people according to Dave Usher. He has also heard that Sterling will be on the plane to Germany, although not confirmed.

Thanks for the link. Definite signs of class there. Hard to tell with a few highlights, but he reminded me a bit of David Silva. Still, 16 is very young: I doubt he'll get any first-team gametime this season.

He does look like a player there doesn't he? That's was his first game for the reserves too (as far as I'm aware) and he looked like he was pulling the strings for them immediately.

I like it when an unknown young lad is plucked from the youth set-up/reserves by a new manager.
