Liverpool v Villareal second leg Match Thread

That was great.

Villareal found themselves up against a very different Liverpool tonight. What a difference from the first leg.

Hard to give out a MoM but I'd go with Can for owning the midfield single-handedly pretty much and giving us a much needed spine despite this being his first game back.

Yes the fact that Can was brought straight into the middle of the team at the heart of a one man midfield and justified his selection ahead of Allen and Lucas (!) makes me think he's got a place in Klopp's plans.

I said last week that villareal weren't all that and tonight they proved that , a pacey forward a tricky winger and a bunch of bumders

Klopp got it spot on tonight .

can, emre can - a master class , doesn't play for a month , doesn't train for a lot of that and absolutely smashes it . It reinforced my view that I'm not sure what Henderson can really add to the team, both Milner and can were superb.

firmino put in one of one of his increasingly regular performances too..and that turn spunks

oh and lovren... <3

Great performance. Exactly the right lineup, I think we saw in Spain that Villareal weren't as special as they were cracked up to be and there was a great opportunity for us to take advantage of them. I said they had a few bottlers and we saw that tonight, a few players went missing and a few more lost their heads in the atmosphere.

Sturridge is gradually getting back to good form, if you put him as the spearhead of your attack then he'll score goals, the workrate was there tonight too, in a game where he really could have ended up on the end of a stupid challenge, he lead from the front and showed why you just can't leave him out.

Joe Allen's attitude is fantastic btw, he was itching to get on and made a difference once again. James Milner is our player of the season, such an important player. And what a servant Toure has been during his couple of seasons. Every now and some numpty calls him fat and past it and then he rolls back the years and puts in a performance like this one, great positioning and reading of the game.

Oh, and Firmino & Can are brilliant in this sort of form.
