Liverpool v Manchester City - Match Thread

We've grown into the game and had better chances from open play. City came into the game visibly with more confidence, but then gradually remembered that this is Anfield and they should be nervous and afraid and the penalty miss exemplified that.

Firmino is playing superbly; too bad Mane and Salah can't quite match his sharpness at the moment. Jones has grown in confidence as the game progressed, I think he can produce a moment of magic if he gets a chance. I really, really wish we could see Fabs at DM in place of Gini, we would get a lot more solid base and faster distribution of the ball too.

You don't think he's losing the ball too much?

For months I've been berating our attack for not getting to the byline and cutting it back. TAA did it twice and both created chances, one the best of the match. We really need to do this far more. Robbo used to do it but I rarely see it now. Happily TAA has started to get there.

I can't help but feel this isn't the game for Thiago to start. He's slow down our ability to counter attack.

And he's almost got sent off where it was heart in mouth tackle where if he brought down Foden on a counter, it was a clear yellow. Thankfully he pulled out of it and Jones cleared up.

If anything, i'd consider bringing on Phillips (more versed with our gameplan) and moving Hendo back into midfield.

If only we were City fans... then it would be pretty obvious from that first 45min that we are fucking shit, and there's no way we could win the league.

Its amazing isnt it ? How the fuck do they forget this ? and is there no one telling them and the whole team to stop slowing the attack and its actually easier to create a chance when the opposition is running back to their positions rather than waiting for the whole defence to line up. Its the same shit over and over again, just dont get it. Also Man city look very blunt ? is this how they have been playing regularly ? Fuck me how are they top

Our midfielders must have been instructed to be careful.

Several times we have won the ball back and have had city slightly unbalanced.
Instead of then going for it, trying to get past a man, carve out an opening for the final ball to play someone in, we stop, stall and pass back or sidewise to maintain possession. Disappointing. We do not get too many of these changes against such a good team.

I'm sort of happy with 0-0.

They have been light years ahead on form, so to be equal or even possibly the best team is encouraging.

What drives me mad is the constant stopping and turning back, typified by ginis great run, then stagnation and eventually back to the CBs.

Why on earth can they not see that those kind of situations need us to attack without fear?

Once again slo-mo creates a distorted impression. A nano second movement isn't 'hanging'. The replay left it hanging.

He pirouetted to attempt a tackle with his "back" leg. I take (and agree) with your general point regarding replay, but when he didnt take the ball with his left it was foolish to flail the right.

Why are fireworks going off during the match?
If we are trying to retraumatize the City players who were on the under siege bus, I'm all for it.

When the ball came back off Fabinho it moved Trent slightly and Sterling was able to come inside easily. Shite from Trent
