He hasn't signed yet, but todays Echo says we're optimistic about signing him.

I highely doubt we're paying 12 mill regardless.

Big signing on fees are common place in all contract negotiations - the agent robs a living taking a cut of the sellers fee (and maybe a little arrangement fee from the buyer) and the player gets his lump sum bung from the buyer by means of a "welcome to our club" (which the sneaky agent then gets another % cut of). ...the only difference here is that you can add a couple of million onto the golden hello - pulling figures out of my posterior you'd probably expect the lad to be getting around 2m if it were a "normal" transfer, so double it and add a bit and youre probably pretty close to what we would have to shell out.

When the Lampard negotiations were going on a couple of seasons back the agents starting point was that whoever signed him on a free was essentially getting a 25m player for nought, and so it was not unreasonable to expect that club to compensate Frankie with something in the region of 10m.

With all due respect to our Moroccan friend i) hes not worth 25m ii) he's not anywhere near as hot a property as Lampard iii) hes not getting anywhgere near the signing on fee mooted
 
I suppose it's worth bearing in mind that we're skint and with Rafa's record of picking winners from the attackers bargain basement being patchy (to put it kindly), signings like these could end up saving us if they're half decent.

Either way, Maxi and (if we sign him) Chamakh are going to be a huge upgrade on the Bosmans we've seen in recent years.

I'm guessing a 5 mill sign on fee. Anything more than that is fucking ridicuolous.

Voronin got 2 mill, if I remember correctly.
 
The Times today is reporting that any money from the sale of Babel will be available to Rafa.

Could Wenger have conned us into blowing it all on another dud?

He held a meeting with Liverpool officials last week, and agreed in principle terms that will bring him to England next season, and now the Anfield club is waiting for his signature on a pre-contract deal, which is permitted under the Bosman ruling.

Well, I am going to keep track of Gene on this one.
We desperately need a striker now to help try and save the season, and we appear to be spending some big-bucks on a player no one really knows much about for next season....*scratches head*
 
We definitely need striker coverage for the rest of the season. I'm with Vlad on this one.

Calm down Roger. The original post implied that he would cost 25million which didn't make sense as he was a free agent come July. The entire article went on to explain that it was based on wages, signing on fee etc which is still laughable to be honest.

The messenger shouldn't be shot however.
