Agree about giving Jonjo a go, but we need more than just him as stand-ins if Cluelas and Poultry are both not good enough.

Must try harder.

Bloody hell, even I'd balk at those.

I'm not saying Brunt would be just what we need for a title challenge, but after 20 years I've finally recalibrated my expectations and I'm now officially jealous of West Brom for their Brunt / Odemwingie or however you spell its link up play.

He'll be 26 in Jan so any case for signing him needs to be made on the grounds that he's good enough already for the mid to long term rather than on any potential future improvement.

I've got nothing against signing British / Irish players from unfancied sides, but it needs to make sense.

I haven't seen anything of West Brom this season (other than when they played us), so for 8M-10M does this guy represent value for money?
8-10 m is what you'd expect to pay for someone like Brunt, but if SG is going to deliver the majority of set pieces, then I wonder what we'd really get out of him. He's a very decent player, and I'm a fan, but he's not what we're looking for. I just don't see him as a Liverpool player.

And Crump, being a Norn Iron fan, I've probably seen much more of him than most.
He's not good enough for us is the long and short of it.

Wand of a left foot, but his languid, droopy style irks me. He reminds me of Mark Kennedy with that laid-back gait, and I don't see what he'd add to us.

He struggled to get into that West Brom team for a long time - I couldn't believe they were even prepared to pay Wednesday the 3/4M odd they did, fair play to him though he's turned into a decent Premier League pro. That's all he'll ever be mind you.

Oh and D-Mac - has he become less energetic as he's got older? When he was at Wednesday he used to be all over the place. Maybe not as effective with the ball as he is now, but he used to put himself about quite a bit. These days he's like the most languid fucker on the planet.
I think he's stepped it up considerably this season Ryan, but he's never going to be all action.

I think Pesam has it bang on. He's got a great delivery but he has no tricks, can't beat a man, he doesn't have that spark that really sets him apart. Not what we need at all.

Chris Brunt claims that the best thing about being linked with a move to Liverpool is that the speculation wouldn’t have surfaced if he wasn’t playing well for West Bromwich Albion.

The Northern Ireland winger is believed to caught the eye of Anfield boss Roy Hodgson after impressing in the first couple of months of his return to the Premier League and with Liverpool needing an injection of quality in their team they are sure to spend in January.

“Liverpool haven’t had a great start to the season and it’s easy to link people, but obviously it’s nice to be linked with a club like that,†said Brunt.

“It shows I must be doing my job right for West Brom.
I am enjoying my football at the minute and I’m happy with my form.

“For a club like Liverpool to be linked is flattering, but I am enjoying playing for West Brom.

“You always want to better yourself as a player. If I was to do well enough at West Brom to get myself a move to a bigger club and progress my career that’d be great. We’re moving in the right direction, though, and I am probably playing as well as I have done in my career.â€

Right now Brunt is concentrating on winning his 31st international cap, with Morocco in Belfast to face Northern Ireland tomorrow night.

Ask any Northern Ireland fan which of Nigel Worthington’s players has made the biggest impact at their club so far this season and the name most likely to come back is Chris Brunt.

Much of the praise for West Bromwich Albion’s impressive return to the Premier League — winning at Arsenal and securing a draw away to Manchester United — has come the way of the Belfast man.

Yet by common consensus there’s still more to come from him on the international stage.

“Playing week in week out at West Brom it’s a different style of football and it suits my game a lot better,†he says.

“I’ve been involved in a lot of good results. It’s difficult coming from one style of football to another, but for us to get the results that we have without going to try to outplay England, Spain or Italy. We’ve got to play a little bit differently.

“People may say we’ve punched above our weight, but every point we’ve won in qualifiers while I’ve been playing has been hard-earned and that epitomises Northern Ireland.

“I don’t try to play any differently and I on’t think I do, although I’d like to have more goals. I just try to do what I’m asked to do.â€

I know, he's probably not.

He's just not what we need either.

Brunt can fuck off.

He's just an average Premiership footballer.

Lucky Roy's only after top premiership talent like Konchesky and Poulson, then.

CHRIS Brunt admits he is enjoying his time at The Hawthorns amid talk that Liverpool and Everton could re-ignite their interest in Albion’s star midfielder.

The Baggies are bracing themselves for summer bids for their skipper after he impressed last season but manager Roy Hodgson is determined to hold on to his key performers.

Liverpool’s director of football Damien, Comolli, is a big fan of the £8 million-rated Northern Ireland international, who was made captain by former Anfield chief Hodgson earlier this year.

But Brunt, who has two years remaining on his current deal, insists he is focused on Albion and unconcerned by the mounting speculation.

“I’ve got a contract here, so until someone tells me otherwise I’ll be playing here,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed the season and I’ll just keep my head down and see where it goes from there.

“I enjoy playing for West Brom and I think I’ve got a decent relationship with the supporters.

“I’ve been here for a while now and I know the ins and the outs of the club.”

Villa are also believed to be keen admirers of Brunt and their new manager could find himself looking for a replacement for Ashley Young should the England man depart, as expected, this summer.

Albion are a team on the up, though, and are looking to build a team around their top players to help establish themselves in the top flight.

And Brunt, along with 15-goal hitman Peter Odemwingie, player-of-the-year Youssuf Mulumbu and defensive rock Jonas Olsson, is regarded as one of that group.

Last season he made 34 appearances, scoring four goals, as Albion secured their highest ever finish in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old has been a constant menace in front of goal since signing from Sheffield Wednesday for £3 million in 2007. In the 2009-10 Championship season he notched 13 times and in his first Premier League season he finished as the club’s top scorer with nine goals.

Despite a lower return in the most recent campaign, when the left winger was often deployed in a more central role in midfield, he is pleased with his form.

“I am definitely happy with the way I’ve played,” he added. “I really enjoyed the season playing in the Premier League and being more involved than I was last time under Tony Mowbray.’’

Brunt sat out of the recent Carling Nations Cup defeats to the Republic of Ireland, and Wales but will be back, if fit, for his country’s Euro 2012 qualifiers in August.
