I may have to look up the dictionary again, but I'm pretty sure not trusting people solely because they are American does actually make you xenophobic(comes from fear of foreigners).
It does, but "American businessmen"?
I'm being kinda specific here.

So if I say I don't trust Americans politicians is that Xenophobic as well?
Yeah, probably. I dunno, I don't really care and amn't sure why I replied at all.

Precisely. I just wish everyone would stop creaming their knickers every time the hooded claw comes out with his latest soundbite

Mr K, I would not say I am creaming my Knickers over JH exactly, but I have seen no reason to mistrust them as yet. They seem to have grasped a very stingy nettle with some aplomb. Yes they are businessmen, and as we know football, in the majority of cases, is a business, but It seems to me these particular owners have far more idea on running a successful business, and keeping the customers on-side than the last ones. Having said that the fact there is one person in overall charge is an advantage and they don't have Rafa Machiavelli to contend with too.

regards

Very true.

Unless they're a multi-billionaire Liverpool fan, why would anyone buy us other than to make money?
I don't have anything against them making money but the previous owners were also here to make money.
I used to watch NBA basketball until the owner of my favourite team the Seattle Supersonics decided to move the franchise to Oklahoma. That kinda killed it for me but it was a "business move" so to say.
Despite protests from the fans they just packed up and left.
Like Rafa said I'm afraid of them wanting to turn us into a franchise.

They'll just have to earn my trust. We'll see in the summer.

What are they going to do in the summer that will earn your trust ?

Spend recklessly ?

Talk like Cilla Black.

Why would I ever trust them? I don't get why we ever should. trust isn't even a concept that should be applied in this case. Some people seem to look at them as foster parents who may love us unconditionally or might lock us in the cellar. I believe it's far less emotional than that, they are investors and will work to make money. If their financial goals happen to give rise to our football ones then great, but that will be a happy coincidence.

Basically everything the previous owners didn't.

Most important:
# Sufficient transfer funds.
# Get the new stadium project/expansion project sorted.
# Not placing debts from other ventures on the club

Not so important at the moment:
# Invest in the youth set up (Melwood/the Academy)

If Kenny doesn't get an extension:
# Find a suitable replacement, a manager with pedigree. NOT another Hodgson.

I can't see how they could invest in The Academy any more.

There's always ways to improve the Academy.
We can build Liverpool Academies in third world countries like Ajax has.
Expand the scouting network.

Enough to buy top class footballers without having to sell.

Ajax are hardly pulling up trees for all their worldwide academies.

We're seeing some of the most exciting youngsters we've had...well...in my living memory and bringing more through into the first team than ever before. The last to make it was Gerrard. We're now seeing Kelly, Spearing, Coady and Flanagan coming through the ranks with the likes of Sterling and Suso likely to follow.

Having a outpost in every corner of the world isn't the way in my opinion.

You should always sell top class footballers if they don't want to play for LFC.

What? Who said anything about players not wanting to play for Liverpool?
BTW Benitez wanted to sell Xabi to buy Barry, he said it himself in numoerous interview and it was not about Xabi wanting to leave.
Isn't quite common among clubs in Europe to sell players in order to buy? Regardless if they want to leave or not.

I was just giving an example. Barca's youth set up seems to be much larger. They have an extensive scouting network in south america and they keep producing talents on a yearly basis.

I think that's wholly unrealistic right now

So are you saying that we're gonna have to sell in the summer?
I don't mean our dross, Maxi, Jovanovic etc.

Is it possible that the club will sell someone like Johnson in order to strengthen some other area in the squad? Considering the emergence of Kelly.

It's definitely possible. The overriding concern is still the size of the wage bill. There isn't a huge amount of room to increase it, so any additions to it are going to need to be somewhat balanced by people leaving

The rumour mill has us spending 50m net this summer, right now I don't see how it's possible myself but the next set of accounts will tell us a lot more.
