Liverpool or England for the Cup?

If England won the World Cup I think I'd have to commit suicide. In fact, I wouldn't have to. I would naturally self destruct listening to the resulting drivel, and seeing the images of Terry lifting the trophy plastered over everything would cause the grayish soup that was my brain to pour from my eye sockets.

A horrible thought. Good luck to yers and all.

I'd rather win the League Cup, no, a League GAME, than England win the world cup. I hate the national team. I hate all the media that goes with them, the way every year is their year, the way they continuously bang on about '66. The way they think they're much better than they are. The way they boo, ridicule and target their own players for a scapegoat. They're pompous and arrogant and not nearly as good as they think they are. It's everything our great club isn't. I can't be a fan of that.

Fuck England.

Liverpool every day of the week.

Agree on that.

I couldnt stomach seeing a team with Terry, Cole, Lampard, Rooney ect lifting a cup. I boo and abuse them when they come to Anfield, so cant change my views just because there wearing an England top . As i said though, thats just my opinion and iv got nothing against people who do support the national team. Iv talked about this topic before with my mates and it eems that almost all of my Liverpool supporting mates feel the same, yet my Bluenose mates, would prefer an England World cup win.

It's strange because I used to be a massive England fan as a child. I remember crying in my room when Argentina knocked England out in 1998. This just after I jumped for joy as Owen scored THAT goal.

I'm not sure when or why my view changed. Maybe it was the fact the national team seemed to steal Owen away from us, he became England's Owen. Or the drab, poor performances, the shit media and fans etc etc I could go on forever. It's probably a combination of all of these. I just cannot bring myself to support them anymore. I see an international break as a distraction when they come around, and a potential danger to our players getting injured.

I can honestly say if England won the world cup, and the media went beserk as I imagine they would printing stories for months and banging on about it for the next 40 years, it wouldn't be too far behind seeing Man Utd winning the treble and all the self congratulatory back slapping that went along with that.

Yeah I didn't even get onto the twats that play for them. I reckon if they won Ferdinand would start "brapping" around the trophy. Jesus.

I don't have anything against people who support England, good on them, but Liverpool is my bread and butter, the reason I love football so much. Everything else is secondary to Liverpool.

In fairness one of my best mates is a massive bluenose and he feels exactly the same as me with regards to England. Is it true that the majority of England fans support lower level clubs?

methinks the closer england gets to winning it, i.e. the quarters, semies and the final itself these view may change. I know I was absolutely GUTTED when england missed out of euro 96 and the european championship is NOTHING compared to the world cup.

I know what you mean, I don't bother really watching England qualifiers or friendlies before the major tournaments, but I will be watching them closely in SA. But I will not be hoping they win it. I couldn't cope with the media to be honest. I'll be hoping Spain win it. If not them, then Brazil.

Also one last point on my previous rant (I promise). I know it's been done to death in other threads but I haven't commented on it; what the fuck is going on with making Glen Johnson a scapegoat? Why bother? You've just beaten some second rate team in a friendly, you concede a late goal, let's blame Johnson. You beat your closest rivals in the group 5-1 yet you blame Glen Johnson for their consolation goal. What's the fucking point? Why do the media and fans always need a scapegoat, why are they always baying for blood? The players that go out there and play to win don't deserve that from those shitty, second rate "fans". I know I don't particular want them to win anything, but nobody deserves that completely unwarranted abuse. They've always got a target, you're supposed to be a SUPPORTER.

And Liverpool supporters never slag off our own players?

I'd take England winning the WC, simply because I'd enjoy it equally as much, or more so than Liverpool winning the FA Cup, and lots of other people could join in to. It'd be talked about for years.

The league and CL obviously come first, though.

I recon you would be hard pushed to find any other country in the World where one of 'their own' would shout 'Fuck (inset mother country).'

I was traveling between Italy, Spain and France for the last WC and the solidarity and unity was outstanding.

Proud to be English? My arse.....

Not to the point England fans consistently boo and persecute their players, no.
