Notts County: Hoult, Thompson (C), Lee, Edwards, Clapham, Hamshaw, Ravenhill, Bishop, Davies, Hughes, Rodgers

Subs: Trialist, Pilkington, Canham,Trialist, Fairclough, Westcarr, Facey

Liverpool XI: Hansen, Darby (C), Irwin, Ayala, Mavinga, Palsson, Poloskei, Eccleston, Nemeth, Weijl, Bruna

Subs: Mendy, Bouzanis, Simon, Kacaniklic, Threlfall, Saric, Crowther

No Pacheco? A sign of things to come? He might have just done enough to play for the first team this season...
Hamill is also missing, Rafa might have accepted the bid from Barnsley or he's also with the squad in Barcelona.
BTW, let's see what Sven has up his sleeve.

Surely Nemeth proved more than Pacheco, whose decision making still looked pretty iffy.

In what way? I didn't see that match, but Nemeth always struck me as very intelligent and composed. The anti-Babel if you like.

in the sense that he isn't quite stepping up, and you're just waiting for him to do so.

PACHECO ON THE MARK IN COUNTY DRAW

Steve Hunter 31 July 2009

Daniel Pacheco was on the mark as a Liverpool XI drew 2-2 with Notts County in an entertaining encounter on Friday night at Meadow Lane.

Hungarian striker Andras Simon also netted a second half equaliser.

Meadow Lane is a happy memory for Liverpool who won the League Championship under Joe Fagan here in 1984 during the glorious treble season, and with Director of Football Sven-Goran Eriksson watching on from the stands there was a real buzz in the air.

John McMahon was in charge of the Liverpool team and his young team performed admirably on the night against League Two opposition.

Pacheco gave the Reds the lead with a superb finish after great work from Krisztian Nemeth down the right.

Unfortunately after a bright opening Nemeth picked up a knock and had to leave the field as a precaution around the half hour mark.

Summer recruit Chris Mavinga and Spaniard Daniel Ayala had impressive games in defence while Stephen Darby captained the side having today signed a new contract with the Reds.

Ian McParland's outfit came back to score twice from set pieces, with defensive duo Mike Edwards heading home the equaliser and Graeme Lee putting the home side 2-1 up.

Full credit to McMahon's team who never gave up and they battled away. They eventually got their rewards when Simon drilled home an effort that Russell Hoult got a hand to but couldn't keep the shot out.

Danish youth international Nikola Saric was impressive coming off the bench and he almost won the game in the final minute.

This was an encouraging display and a lot of positives for McMahon to take from it.

Liverpool XI: Martin Hansen (Dean Bouzanis 45), Stephen Darby (captain), Steven Irwin (Emmanuel Mendy 45), Daniel Ayala (Robbie Threlfall 65), Chris Mavinga, Victor Palsson, Nathan Eccleston (Andras Simon 65), Vincent Weijl, Krisztian Nemeth (Ryan Crowther 30), Daniel Pacheco (Nikola Saric 65), Gerardo Bruna (Gerardo Bruna 65).

Babel scored three last season; *loads* of goals would have been far more convincing. What are you judging Nemeth on exactly? He missed practically the whole of last season, and looked class in his first (reserves) season with us. Surely you're not saying that one match, in which he scored two goals, has made you think he's not up to it?

Is it racist to confuse DJs with rappers?

Could somebody look this up?

I haven't seen much of Nemeth but he hasn't looked that great to me in this pre-season.

According to many he's ready for first team duties and has been for some time, but I don't see it at all.

He's certainly still raw in some respects, but he's still managed to make and score goals despite pretty average form overall. I would agree he's not ready to be a regular, not even close, but I do think he's worth a gradual introduction into the squad, perhaps for Cup games to begin with.
