I wouldn't mind signing Insomnia for the right price as he would definitely improve us but still I too would like to see someone who is more of a goal threat out wide like Afellay.
Exactly this. We need someone who can present a consistent threat from LM - I don't really care who so long as he's a major step up from our zero threat now. I mentioned a while ago that Afellay can be bloody brilliant at times and he'd be first choice. But if we're not going to go down that road then N'Zogbia would improve the team.

In truth, he spent most of his time at Newxastle playing left-back, not on the wing, so Brendan's stats don't quite tell the whole story.

I fear a Jemaine Pennant MK II..
I doubt that. Pennant was frequently in trouble off the field even before he joined us, and I'm not aware that N'Zogbia has that on his record. He's also a better player than Pennant will ever be.

Righto. In that case the comparison in ability is particularly relevant. If N'Zogbia's attitude is right (and we should look very carefully at that before even considering a deal) I think he'd do a lot better for us than Pennant did.

I think there's a mistake with the stats above. Soccernet shows his stats as below

2004-05: Games - 8 (2 starts), Goals - 0, Assists - 0
2005-06: Games - 33 (27 starts), Goals - 5, Assists - 7
2006-07: Games - 20 (5 starts); Goals - 0; Assists - 2
2007-08: Games - 30 (25 starts); Goals - 3; Assists - 7
2008-09: Games - 31 (27 starts); Goals - 3; Assists - 2
2009-10: Games - 35 (31 starts); Goals - 7; Assists - 7
2010-11: Games - 13 (8 starts); Goals - 4; Assists - 2

Total - Games - 170 (125 starts); Goals - 22; Assists - 27

Not awe inspiring but it's certainly not as unproductive as the stats above show him to be. He's also still very young and played a lot of these games at left-back which might be the reason for the lack of too many goals. He's blossomed at Wigan and is a better player than Pennant to be sure.

His attitude of course is a major concern but we could do a lot worse.

Ryan supplied the stats. I just called him a 'brainless cunt'.

But there's certainly a few worrying truths in both posts

He may have to wheel and deal in the January transfer window if he is to stave off relegation.

That could mean N’Zogbia, who was believed to be watched here by Liverpool scouts, could be sold to generate precious funds to strengthen.

Winger N’Zogbia, Wigan’s stand-out player, saw a proposed move to Birmingham in August collapse at the 11th hour because of his contract demands. Martinez said: “I don’t think we’ve got a lot of resources. But we’re not in a position where we have to sell assets.

“I can’t speak about Charles because he has been focused and is enjoying his football.

“As we saw in the last window, everything was agreed and it didn’t go ahead, so in football you never really know what’s going to happen [when transfers are concerned].

One senior player Liverpool could make a move for is Wigan Athletic left winger Charles N’Zogbia.

Scouts from Anfield were among several clubs to run the rule
over the 24-year-old Frenchman in Wigan’s 2-2 draw with Stoke City on Saturday.

Tribalfootball claims that Roy Hogdson was present in person to watch Wigan v Stoke, though.

LIVERPOOL are trying to persuade Wigan to part with Charles N’Zogbia – as the influence of agent Paul Stretford grows at Anfield.

Wigan have slapped a £15million price tag on the French winger, with Liverpool only willing to pay half that figure but still hopeful of finding a compromise.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish made a personal check on N’Zogbia during Wigan’s draw with Fulham last weekend.

The Anfield club’s move for the Wigan star has been driven by Stretford and his business partner, former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd.

Stretford is a close friend and former business associate of Dalglish.

The Scot helped to recruit players for his former agency, Proactive, including their most famous client, Wayne Rooney.

Since Dalglish succeeded Roy Hodgson, Stretford and Shepherd are said to have been closely involved in Liverpool’s search for potential transfer targets.

Dalglish is working harmoniously with Liverpool’s director of football strategy Damien Comolli during the January transfer window.

But Comolli’s status as the club’s main transfer fixer could be threatened if Dalglish is appointed on a full-time basis, with Stretford sure to carry major clout.

If Kenny gets the permanent appoint, he'll be made to fit into the existing structure.

While Comolli is DOF, I don't see any problems with Kenny. Clubs do use agents and I don't foresee any problems.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez has dismissed rumours linking Charles N'Zogbia with a move to Liverpool.

There has been speculation the two clubs have begun transfer talks for the French winger, with Maynor Figueroa also linked with a switch to Sunderland and Aston Villa.

And while Martinez admits it is flattering for players to hear of interest, he reiterated that Wigan do not need to sell in the January transfer window.

"It's a compliment when you've a team chasing you that would love to have you in their squad," he said.

"It's speculation, but it's positive. When you go into a game on the back of a defeat and you read someone wants you, it's a great lift.
Compliment

"But to get such a compliment it can only help you as a player and the football club as a whole.

"But we're not here to try to find business, we don't need to sell players to balance our books, and that's always our position."

Wigan suffered a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal on Saturday and host Villa on Tuesday night looking to climb out of the bottom three.

And although the Latics are facing a battle to avoid relegation, their manager insists he has no such fears over losing any key players this month.

"For me, it's not an issue," Martinez added. "We're not talking to any clubs, so it's not as if there are negotiations that you hope break down.

"All our concentration is on what is a huge game for us tomorrow, with the players in the same frame of mind.

"The players mentioned have been performing really well for the last season and a half, but they've still a long way to go.

"When they do they will get their rewards, both individually and us as a football club."

We could piss on Newcastle's chips for the second time in a day and come in with a bid.

Don't think that'd please our new no.9

Shortest-lived transfer rumour of the day? Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has admitted he has turned down a bid from Newcastle - said to be around £10m - for winger Charles N'Zogbia and will resist any further bids for the Frenchman.

It would be nice if we had a pacey left footed player on the left to cross for Carroll.

We've got Cole who ought to be okay
