Liverpool are reportedly lining up a £9-million bid for Wigan Athletic winger Charles N’Zogbia.

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson and the club's ambassador, Kenny Dalglish, watched the Frenchman play against Bolton last weekend.

And according to the People, three top Liverpool scouts, including chief scout Eduardo Macia, went to take a look at N’Zogbia in the Carling Cup win against Swansea City last week.

N’Zogbia was desperate to leave the Latics in the summer, but moves to Birmingham, Olympique Marseille and Sunderland never materialized.

N’Zogbia has an efficiency ratio of a goal or assist every 191 minutes this season. His contract with Wigan expires at the end of next season.

Good player. We should have got him in summer.....or last summer.....or whenever the fuck whenever.

Perhaps, but there's not much in it IMO. Afellay probably is the more talented, but N'Zogbia is Prem-proven. I'm not sold on his "possibilities" as a LB myself, but he has at least played there once or twice and could conceivably cover that position too.

N'Zogbia is exactly the kind of player we lack. Babel's fee would cover it and we'd be much better covered on the left.

It's a no-brainer.

Same here. I wouldn't be buying him as a LB option at all. He'd have to be a winger.

He was at Newcastle from a very early age wasn't he? Is he classed as home-grown?

He's fucking boss. He keeps getting linked with Arse and it pisses me off. I mean he wouldn't even have to move house.

I made this call a while ago. I definately hope that we get him.

He is exactly what we need.

£9m is a lot of money when you start reaching figures like that,I'd rather pay a few million more and get a quality player in that position.

Buy 'cheap' buy twice.

I thought he might be something when he was at Newcastle, and yes, he has progressed a bit and is starting to show a bit of talent here and there, but he's not going to set the world alight.

He seems to be at his most effective playing on the right and coming inside onto his left. Not really what we need.

I wouldn't say he's boss but he'd be great for us. I'd love us to sign him.

Check out hese ZINGING stats!

Newcastle: Appearances - 118. Goals 9.

Wigan: Appearances - 56. Goals 8.

France U-21's: Appearances - 13. Goals 0.

That's 17 goals in 187 games. From a left winger.

Here's some more too:
- He took his first club Le Harvre to court to force through a transfer to Newcastle. Newcastle ended up having to pay the French club compensation to get him.
- He demanded to leave Newcastle after 4 years citing "wanting to reach a higher level of ambition which isn't possible here."
- He then refused to play for them until a transfer was forecd through.
- He ended up at Wigan.
- A move to Birmingham fell through last year because his wage demands where too high.

He played for newcastle and now for wigan. Their strikers struggle to score in the past so from a left winger playing for those teams, its not that bad

To be fair he only played with a geriatric Shearer and a crocked Owen.

I wouldn't mind signing Insomnia for the right price as he would definitely improve us but still I too would like to see someone who is more of a goal threat out wide like Afellay.

not really bothered about charles but if the guy is creating chance after chance than his lack of goals becomes less of an issue.

£7m? That's a million lower than the one that Birmingham offered which broke down after failure in contract talks.

ASTON VILLA are plotting a £7m move for Charles N’Zogbia.

The winger is desperate to quit Wigan and Gerard Houllier is willing to give his fellow Frenchman an escape route.

N’Zogbia saw a summer move to Birmingham fall through over his £50,000-a-week pay demands.

Despite featuring in 17 of Wigan’s games this season, he is still determined to leave Roberto Martinez’s side in January for a bigger club.

And Houllier wants to get one over on Birmingham by succeeding where Alex McLeish failed, but N’Zogbia is likely to have to lower his pay demands first.

Martinez accepts he faces a fight to hold on to N’Zogbia once the transfer window reopens.

Liverpool and Marseille have also been linked with the 24-year-old.
