Liverpool's director of football strategy Damien Comolli will travel to France before the New Year to watch Sochaux star Ryad Boudebouz, Goal.com UK can reveal.

The 20-year-old has emerged as the latest France-based target for the Reds as they look to rejuvenate their squad in January by signing potential stars.

Boudebouz has been watched by a number of top European sides this season and has most recently been linked with Tottenham and Lyon.

The Algeria international has been given a glowing reference by Steve Hitchin, the highly regarded scout that Spurs manager Harry Redknapp accused Liverpool of ‘nicking’ last month.

Now Comolli is set to cast his eye over Boudebouz in person as Liverpool step up their interest in a player he already knows well from his time as director of football at St Etienne.

Sochaux are reluctant to sell their star player but it is believed they would struggle to turn down an offer in excess of £4 million to take the player to Anfield.

“Liverpool have shown serious interest in him and Damien Comolli will come to watch him at a game in the next two or three weeks,†an insider told Goal.com UK.

“It is looking very possible that he will sign for Liverpool – he is an exciting young player who needs developing but is capable of special things.â€

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson wants at least four new players in the January transfer window but it is believed Boudebouz would arrive at Anfield initially as a squad player and is considered one for the future.

Boudebouz is regarded as one of the most exciting creative midfielders in French football thanks to his close control, exciting dribbling and sweet left foot.

He featured for Algeria in the goalless draw against England at the World Cup last summer in a central position but is equally comfortable out wide. He has already scored some stunning goals in his career including a goal from the halfway line against Monaco last season.

Despite representing France at youth level, Boudebouz switched his allegiance ahead of the 2010 World Cup to Algeria, the country of his parents.

as long as he's not the only winger we sign this season then i don't mind this link

even though i've never heard of him

I'd rather we sign someone i've never heard of who might be good, than someone i already know is shit.

He's actually a really good player, watched him a couple of times in the French league.

He's like El Zhar, but with skills/potential/talent/.

Although he hasn't scored that many, I was pretty impressed while coming across his past stats.

08/09 25 app, 3 goals
09/10 31, 3
10/11 17, 2

A regular in French Ligue 1 at the age of 18. Almost 80 apps in top flight football already. Not the often heralded 'new so-and-so' type of starlet cos of glimpses of brilliance. (Based on records he'd grew around 5cm and put on 11kg since his debut 2 yrs ago.)

Re: Liverpool eye £4m Algerian starlet Ryad Boudebouz

He's a talented player, no doubt there.

United wished to sign him when he was 16, but he knocked them back. This led him to have the chance to play in the national youth cup in 2007, sign his first professional contract in the summer of 2008 and then break into Sochaux first team, and since then his caught the eye of a few clubs in the league.

Done a bit of research on him:

Since his first Ligue 1 goal, back in November 2008, Ryad has been going from strength to strength. The club, with its core beliefs in friendship and humility, can take a lot of the credit... everyone knows everyone in this big family.

"These friendships have been created over the years," said Boudebouz, whose understanding with Ligue 1’s top assist provider and best friend Marvin Martin is a prime example. "Since we were all kids, we've done every together; school, training, living - obviously this makes it easier out on the pitch."

All the ingredients

His strengths: speed, agility, acceleration and an amazing left foot. All the requisite ingredients for scoring some spectacular goals! Ryad has scored twice in his ten Ligue 1 appearances this season, one each against Saint-Etienne and Nice.

"In my opinion, the goal against Nice is better. First of all, it killed the game off. I made a lot of runs to the back post in that game and the ball didn't come, but I gave it one more try. I saw it coming my way right from the start and I just hit when it got to me."

It didn’t take long for Ryad's performances to catch the eyes of the international powers that be and despite having played youth football for France, he decided to play his senior football for Algeria.

This decision earned him a place in his first World Cup in South Africa, an incredible moment for the player nicknamed 'Debza', which means 'brawl' in Arabic dialect...

World Cup dream

"I'll never forget it. We headed out into a stadium holding 80,000 fans and playing against guys like Steven Gerrard, players you dream of playing against when you're a kid. There, they were opposite us. Honestly, I don't think I fully realised what was happening. It was after the match, when I watched it again that I thought, I have to make the most of this experience, because I may never get another chance to play in the World Cup finals."

Despite his two superb goals this season, Ryad sometimes drifts out of matches, not that Sochaux coach Francis Gillot is surprised after all the demands that have been made on the young player in the last few months.

Gillot: ‘A decisive player’

"He had a little run of poor form because he didn't really get a break after the World Cup," explained Gillot. "We gave him a couple of weeks off. Today he's paying for it a little, but he's an immensely important player for us because he's incredibly skilful and is has a major role to play for us going forward. In my opinion, he's a decisive player for Sochaux."

After two seasons with Sochaux, the young midfielder has a host of clubs chasing his signature; Palermo, PSG and Marseille have all expressed their interest publicly. But despite all the talk, Ryad isn't planning on quitting his one and only club this season.

'No desire to leave Sochaux'

"Every young player dreams of playing for a big club. But you can't be in too much of a hurry. I have to step up here at Sochaux. We have a group of youngsters here, 14 of us and we get along well, even with the older players. For the moment, I have no desire to leave Sochaux."

It sounds like the prospect of playing with Gerrard each week would break his loyalty to Sochaux

Yep 🙂

Liverpool target Ryad Boudebouz has revealed that he would be interested in a move to Anfield, but has insisted that he is focused on performing for his club Sochaux.

The star, who was a finalist for Young African Player of The Year in 2010, admitted that a move abroad interests him.

“If a proposal arrived from Liverpool of course that I would think of it," Boudebouz, who was part of Algeria's squad at the 2010 World Cup, told Goal.com.

"Moving to Spain or England is very tempting."

But he added that he would not allow interest from the five-time European Cup winners to distract him.

“I am a Sochaux player, 100 per cent," he said.

"In my head, I should finish the season here, especially as there has been no offer and no proposal yet. "

Goal.com UK exclusively revealed on Tuesday that the Merseyside club are considering a move for the highly-rated Algerian international in January, for a fee of around £4 million. Liverpool's new director of football strategy, Damien Comolli, is set to scout him in person ahead of a potential bid.

I cant help but chuckle when I say his surname in my head. Sounds like a fucked up pet name for boobs or something.

LIVERPOOL have stepped up their bid to sign Sochaux playmaker Ryad Boudebouz.

Kop director of football Damien Comolli tried to land the 21-year-old Algeria international in January but was knocked back by his club.

Now Anfield officials have re-opened negotiations with Sochaux
and the player's advisors and are set to fly to France.

Boudebouz is rated at £5million and scored eight goals in 38 league games last season to help clinch a Europa League place.

He said: "Things happen quickly in football. I will only say that I am no longer certain of staying put at Sochaux."

Boudebouz is a very talented player, I've followed him for the past 1 1/2 years since he was approached by the Algerian FA regarding him switching his allegiance to them, which he later on did.

What I can say about him is that he's got pace, quick feet, he's a very good dribbler and he can play on both sides of the pitch. Pretty much basic traits of the modern day winger, I'd say.
What sets him apart is that he's a smart player, he can play behind the striker, score goals and provide assists.

However, I'm worried about his attitude and work ethic. Will he be settled in Liverpool? Will he accept being on the bench? African cup of nations every two years?

In his case 21 years old and alone in Liverpool, knowing only French and Arabic. It's gonna be tough.

No more Algerians please.

No more starlets please.

Thank you.

Have we had any Algerians?
The lads 21 years old, me think wouldn't call him a starlet.
Would be a good option to have on the bench. Cheap as well.

Damien Comolli was at Sochaux vs Lyon last night according to LePays newspaper.

http://www.lepays.fr/sport/2011/11/07/l-oeil-de-liverpool-etait-la

Article also mentioned that both Alexandre Krstik and Jean-Marie Cantona, agents of Ryad Boudebouz and Marvin Martin, were present too.

Boudebouz scored a penalty and Sochaux won 2-1.

Pulls off nutmeg vs Kallstrom

???? ???? ????? ?? ??????

Penalty won and scored

Boudebouz Vs Lyoun , But Boudebouz

The fact the he's a fast, skillful, goalscoring, non-english, cheap attacking player suggests we'll not be signing him.
