.............your name rhymes with Merrier - Huzzah!

Somebody posted this on my Facebook yesterday. Excellent article. I was by no means Rafa's biggest fan, and I wanted him out long before he was eventually given the old heave ho but to be fair to him he would not be in this state we are in now with Hodgson.
I think letting Aquilani go and bringing in the shit like Poulsen was woeful judgement. Especially when we're probably going to let Aquilani go to Juve for about £12m and quitely take a good £8m loss on the lad.

Do you think Roy had much of a say in the Aquilani issue, seems to me it was more of a cost cutting exercise ?

regards

I doubt having Aqua for another year would be more expensive than Poulsen's transfer fee plus wages. Same goes for Meireles, though he looks to be a fine player.

I think Roy was keen to get him off the wage bill, yes.

BUt it was because he didnt know how to use him, much like Rafa.

I don't really know how much truth there was to the story of him lacking the bottle to play in the Premiership, but he was still one of the very few creative players we had and we shoiuld have kept him.

Especilly since exchanging himfor POulsen and 8 million looks like total bonkers.

What is this nonsense about exchanging Aquilani for Poulsen anyway?

Roy bought Poulsen because he's someone he's worked with in the past and to try and cope with Maschareno's inevitable exit.

Would we be playing Aquilani as a DM? Is that it?

No, keni.

It wasn't a literal exchange, since one is a DM and one isnt.

But that is how it would look, isnt it?

Yes, but they just look that way, in a sense.

The same way we can't really say we traded Joe Cole for Benayoun and 5 million, but it still looks that way.

We bought Aquilani for around £17M and the fee agreed with Juventus is 16M Euros if I remember correctly.

So even if we decide to take that view, the exchange would basically be Poulsen plus ~£13M for Aquilani. It's not great, but then it's not all that bad either.

I'm in the enviable position of agreeing and disagreeing with that article almost equally, and the journalist is a rose-tinted fucking bellend.

And fucking Aquilani being used as a stick to beat Budgie with is a bit richn especially since he appears to absolve Benitez of all blame. Yeah, Budgie sent the useless cunt back to Italy, but Benitez also refused to play him, even when fit, and preferred Lucarse, even when our entire season was predictably going down the pan.

And yes, of course Aquilani is a better player than Lucarse of Crapsen, but he was a fucking shithouse, always injured, and was utterly and totally unsuited to the Premiership. The laughable exaggeration of his few glimpses of real quality are pathetic: he was shit and useless more often than not

Jamie Radtwat does a piece on Sky today about how all the promoted teams are doing well because of thier managers, but last week he was blaming Rafa for us being in the shit zone.
