Liverpool agree €15m Elia deal
Liverpool have kick-started their January shopping after agreeing terms to sign Hamburg midfielder Eljero Elia for €15 million.
The Reds desperately need reinforcement after a disappointing first-half of the season which saw them end the year ninth in the Barclays Premier League.
A lack of width on both wings has been a well documented problem at Anfield.
And manager Roy Hodgson has pin-pointed the speedy Dutch international as the ideal man to remedy the problem.
The 23-year-old signed for Hamburg from FC Twente in 2009 and impressed in his first season at the Bundesliga club.
But he failed to maintain his form the following year and lost favour with coach Armin Veh as a result.
According to Hamburg daily Hamburger Morgenpost, Elia is already on his way out of the club after agreeing personal terms with the Liverpool.
The winger will cost the Anfield outfit €15 million.
