v Milan Final UCL

v Barca Semi Final UCL

v Dortmund Semi Final EL

v United away in PL 4-1

v toon at in PL. First 4-3 (one of my first games at Anfield. Sat in Anny Road (home section) with family friend, haha

Most memorable (for the right reasons) games I've seen live:

Istanbul, obviously
Juventus at Anfield with THAT Luis Garcia goal
Liverpool 3 - Everton 2 in the FA cup final (Aldridge, Rush (2))
Liverpool 9 - Crystal Palace 0
Liverpool 4 - United 1 (Beardsley hat-trick)
That was 4-0 when Beardsley scored 3 v united. That would be in my list. I got called up late to work when we beat Palace 9-0 and missed that one. The 5-0 v Forest was the best, followed by 5-1 at Sheffield Wednesday the same year which I felt was almost as good. 2-0 v Everton in 1987, and my one visit to Wembley against Sunderland in 92.

That was my first game at Anfield. Fuck me we destroyed them but the Wednesday goal was amazing. Shame it was only the one 😀

You're right. That was a great game - and I was at that one too. However, I am talking of the game a week before the 1988 Cup Final. We were brilliant, tore Sheffield apart - it felt like the Forest game as we scored 5 and it could easily have been 10.

For sheer enjoyment and a more recent vintage, the Suarez-led demolition of Fulham (away) was delirious, and the 5-0 hammering of Spurs at WHL was another Rodgers era highlight.

I think that was another 'Liverpool ends a manager's career' game, with AVB bombed out shortly after Spurs genuinely made Flanagan look like Cafu, and Suarez was just unplayable.
Good call on the Tottenham game. Being 4-0 up against Arsenal after 20 minutes was also a highlight of that time.

1. 1977 Cup Final - first Liverpool match I saw (yeah we lost)
2. Beating Barca at Camp Nou under Benitez (the Golf Swing)
3. Chelsea UCL semi finals (2005, and 2007)
4. Istanbul
5. Barca Semi Final

Istanbul
Newcastle 4-3
Utd 2-0 (league cup final)
Alaves
Olmypiakos 3-1
I have a cool story about Olympiakos and Istanbul that you might like. It involves Oz too. I'm in the mood to write so indulge a brother.

So back in 2005 I was working in Alexandria in Sydney for Alcatel in the IT department. The only place to get anything to eat was a little Greek cafe round the corner. I used to grab coffee's and toasties there. Pretty decent actually. They were a family run place and always smiley and welcoming. They knew I supported LFC. So Liverpool beat Olympiacos (great game) I didn't know that they were all mad Olympiacos fans. I was a little shy about popping in again but when I did after that game the whole family came out and congratulated me. They swore they would be hoping for an LFC win in Istanbul. Strange but very cool. So of course a few weeks after that the Reds pulled off the miracle of Istanbul and I went into work (this is Oz so about 7am when the game finished) I went into the cafe at lunch and wearing my LFC shirt and buzzing my nuts off. I got a standing ovation from all the staff and a free lunch! The owner was beside himself and very pleased for me. Happy days 🙂

Whether it counts as one of the best games or not beating Arsenal 2-1 at home with Neil Mellors thunderstrike in the last seconds really.... that was a fucking belter... in a way that falls into a different category, late winner ecstasy games, which now include Divock against Everton and numerous others.

I wonder what the fuck happened at Arsenal? That invincibles side was insanely good and the L column stayed at zero until about 50 games wasn’t it? Then they simply fell off the cliff never to return.

And one of the ones I listed earlier... the United 3-3.... I had two tickets for that but had gone home to Stafford and was unable to get up by train I called one of my mates who I’d known since primary school and asked him if he’d drive us up, he was the only one of my crew of mates who had a car.

So there I was standing in a heaving crowd on the Kop wedged in mid air at times with a bluenose mate of mine. After the match he drops into conversation “I wish we had a crowd like that”, by far the most complimentary thing I’ve ever heard a blue say, mind you in terms of spectacle that was fucking nuts. We really should do that safe standing again... different topic again... sorry...

Everyone is posting all the big ones. What is stranger are the random games that stick in my head. Some for the right reasons.

That derby when Gerrard got sent off about 15 mins in is one of them for me. At that time, Everton seemed more competitive in derbies and the entire world was convinced that our team would be relegation fodder if not for Gerrard. Everton supporters celebrated his sending off with so much spite and joy, it was clear they thought the game was theirs.

Instead we won 1-3.

Along the way, we were treated to a Neville scoring an oggy, a Garcia goal, and probably one of two goals Kewell ever scored for us that made him seem like the player he was meant to be.
Yeah i remember that game , we all started singing that we were a man down and yet winning 3-1. I think Kewell scored that goal there was like still 15 to 20 mins left of the game.

Great story! One event of my life that I have always puzzled over was during the 1989 Cup Final. I was spending the weekend in Amsterdam with a group of friends from University - we were studying in Lille at the time. I had been watching the game on the hotel TV but after McCall's second equalizer could not take it anymore and went for a walk - a habit which has become more prevalent over time. As I was walking I heard a commotion at a café down a street I was passing - saw that the game was on their TV and went to have a look. The waitress came across to me and said "You've scored - you're winning again". I was not wearing anything which would have told someone I was a Liverpool fan, so have always puzzled over how she knew - maybe the absence of a bitter expression in my eyes?

Dont you mean 5 months after? The Olympiakos game was early December (it was the final game of the group stages) and Istanbul was 25th May!

Its fucking obvious, given you were in Amsterdam:

The previous night you were pissed and/or stoned and you picked up a young waitress, to whom you told your life story, went back to her place, shagged her senseless, woke up in the wee hours while she was in the bathroom, didn't recognise where you were, jumped out the window and ran back to your hotel.

Most of the usual suspects have been mentioned.

If we're talking watching the game then the best game for me would be the 5-0 at WHL.
For a few reasons; I was lucky enough to get a spare from SpionKop69 and it was great to catch up again.
Also because my last game had been 2 years earlier also against Spurs but it was a tired and painful defeat at Anfield.
It was a terrible time and I thought nothing good would come my way, to come back 2 years later was a catharsis.
Of course, on the minus side that cost AVB his job and Poch came in; and that was the slip year.
But we've come back sgsin.
Hope we get even better and go even further.

As Avmenon said the usual suspects have been mentioned, so I'll add some of my own:

Games I attended:
1. The April 1987 derby at Anfield. We were the reigning champions (actually double winners) but Everton were on their way to be crowned as champions. We won 3:1 Rushie scored twice and I was on the Kop.
2. Rushie's farewell game before moving to Juventus - May 1987. We beat Watford 1:0, but the highlight was Rushie's emotional farewell.
3. December 2013 Liverpool 5 Norwich 1. Suárez scored 4 and I was on the Kop with my son for his first Anfield game.

Games I watched on TV:
1. 1977 European cup final in Rome - first big ears won.
2. 1981 League cup final: Liverpool 3 Spurs 1. Spurs were leading 1:0 before Whelan equalized just before the end of 90 minutes, and then added another in ET with Rushie adding the 3rd. This game marked the emergence of these two alongside with a few other new faces.
3. 1986 Merseyside FA cup final - we beat Everton 3:1 - Rushie scored twice and Johnston added one to give us the double.

Hmmm. No order

Istanbul. Obv
Barca last month. Unreal
Olympiakos. Had been up for 48 hours in Luxembourg and just got there in time. Ace
Everton. Probs the two best sides in Europe playing the FA Cup final 1986, they scored first we won 3-1 to do the double. Back when going to Wembley seemed exotic instead of a total chore
The Everton league game the same season, we won 3-2 at goodison and dalglish scored a belter after about thirty seconds. I was right behind it in the gwladys st or however the fuck you spell it, place went nuts, there were tons of reds in there
Man U away 4-1 was my eldest lads first ever away game and was such a boss afternoon out
Dortmund coz of how mad and loud it was
Juventus because we all thought we'd get battered and Garcia's goal was unreal
Chelsea in 05 because of what it meant and the crazy atmosphere
Chelsea away in 86 because winning the league with dalglish managing and scoring the decisive goal in the season
Weirdly I'll always love Kiev because of how much fun we had on the trip
Same with the times we beat Madrid and Barca away.
The Forest five nil was brilliant at the time, yeah
Man U at anfield 2-0 when 19 year old Gerrard scored a belter from thirty odd yards
I'm just rambling now, they aren't top five. Boss though

That 86 FA Cup final is my first real memory of deciding to support Liverpool. In hindsight, picking the double winners in another country as your team reeks of glory hunting, but I swear a 5 year old me was far more enthralled and enticed by the banners, songs, and repeated mentions of Liverpool fans being the most knowledgeable and respectful fans.

Sad as it was, post Hillsborough is what sealed it and made me an ardent red for life.

Yeah, also not a top 5, I know.

Oddly, one of my favourite games to have went to was an obscure and relatively inconsequential one.
It was a mid week game v West Ham in March 2008.
The result was a comfortable 4-0 win with a Torres hat trick,
But the reason why I remember it so fondly was that it was at the start of the "H&G out" campaign in the stands.
The atmosphere in the ground was really good that night and the Kop was absolutely rocking.
We all stood singing during the half time break

They don't care about Rafa,
they don't care about fans,
Liverpool football club,
Is in the wrong hands,

and a lot of other stuff more insulting. 🙂

I also seem to remember being at a game when the Torres song got pretty much it's first airing but that was the previous season I think.
That cunt ruined all other footballers for me.
Sniff
