"Legal reps ask judge to shorten owners deadline so a takeover deal can be done by the weekend, but he refuses.

So the 4pm deadline tomorrow still stands".

Doesn't look done and dusted to me. What is the judge expecting Hicks to do? Agree to the sale by 4pm tomorrow?
Oh God, so we'll all be back on here tomorrow?
Well he's clearly not going to comply so what happens then? Wait til court opens on Monday?

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

Beeb...

Liverpool's American owners suffered a further setback after a High Court judge ruled their injunction to block the sale of the club was ineffective.

The ruling paves the way for the club to be sold to New England Sports Ventures (NESV), owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, for £300m.

On Wednesday owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett took out an injunction in Texas to block any proposed sale.

But Judge Christopher Floyd said that ruling had no validity in England.

The prospect of NESV buying Liverpool looked close on Wednesday when Hicks and Gillett failed in a legal bid to retain control of the club.

At a board meeting that evening, directors voted three to two in favour of selling the club to NESV, before current owners Hicks and Gillett sprang a surprise by taking out a temporary restraining order in Texas, halting any planned sale.

But Mr Justice Floyd overturned this, calling Hicks and Gillett's conduct "unconscionable" and saying "this case has no real connection to Texas."

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (RBS WIN COURT RULING - CONFIRMED.........TBC

Hicks will sell his shares tonight I reckon. Something like that.

Re: LFC Sold to NESV (RBS WIN COURT RULING - CONFIRMED.........TBC

Basically if Hicks doesn't allow the sale to happen by 4pm tomorrow he can be put in prison until he purges his contempt , i.e. allows the sale.

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

No one will ever read all of this thread again. There are so many gems in here that will be lost forever.

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

5.58pm: "Hicks and Gillett need to withdraw the claim by 3pm UK time tomorrow for the NESV deal to go through tomorrow, NESV's lawyer said" tweets Tariq panja of Bloomberg.

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

Lol. Court has until 4pm. So they'll withdraw at 3.01 leaving it too late for us (i presume)

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

4pm tomorrow is 8am in Dallas?. Doesnt that mean they will have to do their dirty deeds today if they are going to?

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

Who's going to put Hicks in prison? Can't see that happening

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

Judge Dredd

He is the law after all

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

I don't really see a problem with the deadline.

It's very common to use 4pm as a deadline for one legal working day.

The only problem with the deadline is if it matters for the Oct 15 deadline for RBS, which I don't think it does.

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

Why 3pm?

Surely they can do the deal at whatever time?

It cant be cos they knock off at 5pm, surely?!

BTW, up until 5 minutes ago I thought I was waiting until tomorrow. I was upstairs, it came on the radio, & I shouted, "Squiggles, you cunt!"

Bex was most confused.

If he doesn't comply with today's High Court order, that's exactly what he's letting himself in for when/if he comes back to this country. At the very least he'd have to go to the court and apologise.

Ok in this scene:

The Cow Represents Thomas Hicks.

The Road represents the future of LFC

The Gun represents the UK Justice system

Jim Carrey represents Purslow, Broughton and Ayres

and

Renee Zelleweger represents the fans....

Thatcher isnt in this one.

IMO that must be right. RBS and the board have clearly been in lockstep over all this, probably for some considerable time.

$1.6bn please.

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

UK Law and Judge rules Hicks and Gillett may be arrested if Texan TRO isn't withdrawn by deadline.

6.10pm: "Judge accepted all of RBS's arguments - except plea that deadline be set for tonight. If H+G don't comply they will be in contempt."

Re: LFC not yet sold to NESV (but we're getting there)

6.10pm: Owen Gibson has tweeted from outside the court: "Judge accepted all of RBS's arguments - except plea that deadline be set for tonight. If H+G don't comply they will be in contempt."

6.07pm: Sky Sports News are reporting that there is a hearing in the court in Dallas taking place at 6pm UK time so that should be underway right now.

6.03pm: 'If Hicks and Gillett don't comply by 4pm tomorrow they will be found to be in contempt of the UK court," says Sachin Nakrani outside the High Court. It was also stated in court that NESV are the new owners. We've been here before though, haven't we?
