I Moustache You a Question

Just curious to hear to what extent people think we leverage current star players to court new talent.
It occurs to me that Gerrard and Reina would be big draws to Liverpool, and whilst both are genuinely recovering from surgical intervention, their exclusion from the Asia tour could be used to our advantage by having them be part of new player conversations. How much of this goes on (if at all)?

I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly but here goes.

How much leverage does Gerrard have now? I mean he's 31. Reina is 30.
It would have been different if they were still in their mid twenties.
The only world class player we have below 30, in my opinion, is Suarez.
Surely the potential of playing alongside him and Gerrard would be somewhat attractive.

But sadly most players today are drawn by cash. Case in point, City.

Reina is turns 29 in a month. Not a big step up to 30.
Anyway it's true 29 isn't old for a keeper, but with all the rumours last season about him wanting to leave, he wouldn't be that much of draw would he?

[/quote]This wont come as a massive suprise, but i disagree totally.
Lets say we bid for Alex Oxlade from southampton, the bids accepted as is Spurs bid. He is invited to both clubs at one of which he is met by a smiling Daniel Levy and at the other Steven Gerrard (england captain, club captain, european cup winner and best player of a generation)
Who would Oxlade be wowwed by?

So you are asking if Gerrard and Reina will be talking to potential signings to influence them in some way ? I very much doubt alot of that goes on unless of course they personally know the player and might send them the odd text , have a quick call etc . They probably also meet younger players we are trying to sign , woo them and all that. But beyond that with senior players i don't think they'd be involved and rightfully so , kenny and camolli should be far more important in that process than anyone else .

The guy with the big fat checkbook and Dr Dre headphones.

heh. Funny cos it's true.

Is Reina a big draw for outfield players, particularly attackers?

I'd be surprised if he was.

Suarez is becoming one.

Who wouldn't want to play alongside someone like that? Dream team mate.

Same could be said of Dirk really.

The only real draw is probably if they were friends of the sigining or if they could help them settle ie same language..like kuyt and suarez

Ya think?

I can't imagine any young Brazilians watching the Premiership and dreaming of playing alongside Dirk Kuyt, can you?

Agree that players knowing each other would be a draw. You'd have to have a real world class superstar to have players lining up just for a chance to play with them.

Mind you the manager can make a difference I think. But if someone is desperate to play for Kenny chances are they'd be big Liverpool fans anyway.

Yes I guess that was the question I was getting at.
I prefer Krumps answer about the headphones better than the original question though.
