Great article today in the Echo - Personally I thought from the off it was a great idea to have a dedicated throw in coach - I'm no expert on tactics and the intricacies of the game but even I know that throw ins play a big part of the game - Keeping possession, using them to offset offside etc. Anyway check out the article.

I didnt see many good throw ins against Sheffield on Saturday.
I'm not surprised but that's not really my point. Were you actively observing all the throw ins during the game? I wasn't and I'm pretty sure no one really does - I will say though it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it right?

We did a thread on the increase in % of possession retention off throw ins in the summer. Its very hard to feel when you're watching but the stats back it up and I'm glad we have a coach for it.

In addition, its advantageous that Trent was trained to improve his throw ins as it feels like similar skills to what it takes to be a good corner/FK taker. We were the best in the league from set pieces last year and Trent's quickly taken corner was the defining moment of the season.

Klopp, Edwards and FSG's scientific approach to all things football certainly has paid off in countless ways.

Macca is the only person on this board I want to hear talk about throw ins. Just because he's semi-retired doesn't mean you can muscle in on his turf.

When stoke / rory delap were doing those throw in's they were labelled as long ball merchants. When we do it, its a scientific approach

When is the last time we did a long ball throwin ala rory delap? What are you talking about?

Exactly! When did anyone of our throw ins involve a towel and minutes of drying the ball?
Well it's against the rules to do that now, so a very long time, if ever.

The throw in coach helps with defending throw ins as well as taking them.

The stats show (apparently, not seen them myself, just read in an article) we are actually the best in the league at winning back possession from them & retaining possession, so it's obv working.

Small margins...

Gomez can do the long throws, and did it on occasion last year - but to imply we are using it like Stoke did is just ridiculous

Trent is still taking about 2 mins to decide where he’s gonna throw the ball though.
But if we’re in front, I guess its a good thing.

I think a lot of the coaching is for where players run to and how they work as a group to make space for one of them, rather than the technique of the actual throw in.

Apparently Robbo’s able to throw the ball 6 more metres than before the coach came in.

He saw a yellow card for doing this against Chelsea. He's playing with fire.

I think Adrian’s small club time wasting experience has been good for us. We used to fume when losing or drawing and keepers like him would do it. Now he’s doing it for us whilst we’re ahead.
