Leicester City v Liverpool Match Thread

I'm starting to understand it now; we are a team of permanent 6-7th place finishers who have no desire, consistency or, frankly, quality to challenge for something more. If you look at it this way, then this performance is nothing to be ashamed of – anybody can lose away against the current Champions, right? The Klopp effect lifted the team temporarily, but it will take lots of sustained work to shake this team out of mediocrity.

Fair play to Leicester BTW – they went back to basics and played the way they did last season. They should stay up if they keep this up.

Did we at least win the possession stat, someone please tell me we won the possession stat?

Fuck off. Tired of this shit.

Firmino should be a bench warmer. Milner is not a LB. Lucas is not a CB. Look at the state of our bench today.

We are soooo far from where we need to be. Seriously, I expected this shit too.

How many of these players who have a *chance* of getting into the Chelsea team? Or United's? Or City's? Or Arsenal's? or Spur's? 2 or 3 maybe. We are just a bunch of game-raising cunts. Our lack of quality shows against the lower sides when we have to come out and actually play.

I think - despite my real disappointment - that I think you're being harsh.

The team is far better than it's played the last few months.

We just never recovered from the Coutinho injury & Mane AFCON absence.

we've shown we can be a good team.

What we need is a GK (again), another CB (again), a CM (again), a winger like Mane/Coutinho & a goalscorer (not gabbiaddini!)

Does Klopp have the desire to work through this? It's going to take a few years I think ...

What a sickening sight, that bunch walking around now getting an ovation for suddenly starting competing in bloody February. One of the most cynical things in sport this year.

Personally I'm more sickened by the fact we stopped competing in November. Leicester and their travails don't bother me nearly as much.

Clyne is too limited a player for right back. He's decent defensively, most of the time, but he's one of the most cowardly players I've seen for us going forward. I swear he wants to be beaten to the ball rather than have to prove he can do something with it. Pass back over and over again in their half. When the penalty area is tight he just cannot keep doing that. He MUST run down the line and either put in a cross or cut the ball back. This constant bottling it is making us a waste of space down the right.

Similarly, Mane doesn't use his pace enough. Why doesn't he ever try to skin their left back? He's faster than most, but he hardly ever seems to fancy running past them.

And none of our midfield moves the ball quickly enough as we approach the final third. It's three-touch football when speed of release is vital.

Sorry but that's just optimistic bullshit. We had a good few months but we've been shit for a good couple of months now. You can easily say we've just blatantly been found out and that a lot of our players are just bang average. They had a 2 week break to get it together and this is the best they got?

We are literally spineless.

We have to be the mentally weakest teams around, never able to compete physically, and from front to back not good enough.

We so desperately need a central midfielder who can dominate the game. Can isn't up to it and nor is Firmino. Cant fault Mignolet today but he isn't good enough either.

Cant see it changing in the summer - we'll never spend the kind of money or recruit the players we need.

Bad result and performance aside, I quite enjoyed Mignolet's "Belgian Manuel Neuer" routine. It was surprising and effective.

Sack Klopp!!

I dont mean that ... but maybe it would generate the bounce and spur us into the Top 4. Though knowing us, even that wouldn't work

We need to sell Lucas..preferably in summer.

Unless there is a club that would take him on an emergency loan?

We just need to not play him. Especially at centre back.

Carra, and Neville in particular, showing how fucking stupid our defending is.

Maybe harsh, but I want Liverpool to be up there competing with the likes of Real, Barca and Bayern. The Premier League is the richest league in the world and we spend 27m on the likes of Firmino when Bayern will spend that on Lewandsowski. Or 20m on Lovren, or 25m on Lallana, 25m on Wini, or whatever we wasted on Moreno. Some of these are actually good players (Lallana/Wini) but they are not world class and we need a few world class players (who are surrounded by good players). There's no way Firmino should be our main CF. I'd rather Giroud.

We need players at least capable of getting in that world class bracket (Torres/Suarez/Alonso). I look at the current side and I don't see many players who could even break into the Spurs side (Mane is about it). And they've spent a pittance compared to us.

It's part cowardice and part lacking technical ability. He's VERY one footed and not very good in 1 v 1 situations when he's attacking. He's only got the kick and run move. Compare him to GlenJo who could go both ways and cross off both feet.
