Lazer guided?

He just looked quick. Lots of galloping from midfield, but little end product, no tricks, no skillz, few assists.

How do we know the Fener fans were so impressed by him? What did he do to earn it in terms of goals and assists? (I'm not denying this, just want to hear the evidence).

To be fair I'm going fully on the feedback from various Fener fans when I was in Turkey at Easter. Seemingly the whole hotel staff team were rampant Fener fans and they all raved about him. One or two were waxing lyrical saying he was the most talented player they've ever had put on the shirt. They only bemoaned his tendency to pick up injuries every 6-8 games.

I never really got the "pace" thing with him. His pace was weird. If you gave him a yard on a defender, he'd get caught, but if you stuck him deep and gave him space to move into, he'd move through the gears and build up speed gradually until he was flying. (I'm not saying he's slow, btw)

Yeah, he's like an American muscle car. Not nippy but comes into its own in fifth gear.

Alberto seems to have had a reasonable season in Spain. Lets recoup what we can of what we spent on him and buy a midfielder that might fit into Klopp's all-action style.

I suspect that was why he briefly got the wingback spot - that ability to move quickly into space. But once he got into that space and a defender checks his run he becomes useless.

Let face it. He can't play on the wings. He has nothing in his arsenal to beat a ready defender. He definitely doesn't belong in the middle. Or up front for that matter. He can't shoot, can't hold up the ball and has weak upper body strength. He is mediocre to poor in all departments.

You just can't work with somebody who doesn't have IT, not even for Klopp. Otherwise you can literally just pluck someone off the streets, train him for a few years and get him premiership ready. That doesn't happen.

This boy just doesn't have it.

Opinions are very much split of Lazar, 50% think he's utter garbage...50% think he has the ability and under Klopp we could see a big player.

I personally would like to see him stay and given a proper chance under a new manager, he has the pace which we sorely lacked at times last season with lallana firmino and coutinho.

I mean he's currently better than Downing ever was, and remember how many matches he got?

The only thing stopping him from realizing his potential is the availability of minutes IMO.

I think he does "have it", I think technically he might fall into the category of players like Le Tallec, Aquillani and Cheyrou. Beautiful technique, but lacking the physical attributes to fully realise his potential. We've seen it loads of times.

the amount of games Downing got is an enigma. Especially since Maxi was so much better than him.
Managers preference I believe.

That's not really true. Maxi played 35 games in Kenny's first season. He was getting older in his second season under Kenny but was still instrumental in alot of our big games, he helped us beat Chelsea twice in a week in the league and the cup, that was when he was playing brilliantly with Bellamy & Suarez. I don't think Downing saw the end of him, positionally they didn't really play the same positions did they? Maxi played everywhere, and Downing was used mostly on the right by us (which was barmy too).

But Downing joined the year after, Mark. Maxi only played 12 league games that season.
It's the infamous zero goals, zero assist season.
Remember Maxi getting a look in, scoring and getting benched the next week.

I can't remember, he was here what, two seasons? I think he still scored quite respectably, I think I read it was something like 17 in 75, which is actually really good for a player who was getting on a bit. I assumed Downing joined with Kenny, but you're quite right, it was the season after.

Exactly, scored 10 league goals in his first season, but we still got him passed his prime. He was rightly sold and Downing should never have been bought. Just a sad turn of events in the end. Oh well... back to the game

My hunch is that Markovic will be here next season. Klopp values good attitude and Markovic has it in abundance and some talent as well - I think he will impress Klopp in the pre-season enough to stay. Doesn't mean he will be a success here over-all. But he'll be given another chance.

The most important thing for him at this stage is to stay injury-free.

It doesn't make sense to sell Markovic now anyway. His value will be at its possible lowest.

Might as well keep him, play him as and when possible at his favoured LW position, and see what becomes of him. If he ends up scoring 5-7 goals, he'll at least restore some of his value.

I still think he's got good potential. There's a bit of a Berger lurking somewhere in there. Not a Big Mac, granted, but not a Wimpy, either. When he was played on the left for a few games he looked swift, clever and crafty, and I'm still puzzled as to why Rodgers then pushed him back on the right, where he seemed largely ineffectual. I don't think he was trying to prove he was right and the committee was wrong, but it was, nonetheless, very odd and very frustrating.

Based on this video and reports from Turkey it doesn't seem like Marko took a step forward during his load stint in Turkey - the style of play is very much what we saw a season earlier in Liverpool: his most distinctive asset is running very fast in a straight line, he also displayed some occasional nice touches and passes, but consistency and end product were still lacking. Plus he kept getting injured. What can you do with a player like that?

I think he would have to seriously improve at least one aspect of his game to make it at the top level. His speed is a given, but if he learns to cross well with both feet (with speed and direction, not "floaty") he can already be a decent winger just based on those two attributes. If he can also develop a powerful shot and improve his overall decision-making, then we would start to see outlines of a very good player. Let's see what Herr Klopp can do with him.

I see lots of the things that have always frustrated me about him there, lots of receiving the ball and accelerating in a straight line before being tackled. Still underwhelming. A total of 20 appearances for Fener last season with 2 goals, and a handful of assists in one of the two strongest teams in a relatively weak league. I just don't see what there is to get excited about, unfortunately.

So he is a big wendy?

If he wasn't already one of our players that video wouldn't convince anyone to want to buy him. If that's the best he can do in a weak league then it isn't very impressive. Having said that we aren't going to recoup anywhere near what we paid for him at the moment so he may be a decent squad option as we haven't got an abundance of wingers/wide players. If anyone bids 10 million plus then bite their hands off.
