Insignificance

Bad to the bone
Member
He really wanted to push forward... moved his feet. Looked up and forward. Very unlucky With his handmove, but what a breath of fresh air. Thanks for the best quarter of the game!!!

He seems to have found his pace again which is good.
I'd be starting him Sunday to run at that dodgy Utd defence.
If he can show some consistency and show he's just not a 15 minute cameo player then he'll be a very decent acquisition.

yeah, wankobitch looked good tonight. did rodgers not have some kind of plan for him when we bought him? i can't see anything resembling a plan if there was one.

I do know they scouted him obsessively for ages - at least two years, and far more frequently during that period than most targets. They really did the work on him. And when they got him there was pretty much unanimous excitement behind the scenes. So that's why I expressed faith in him when he came and struggled. But as Ryan says, and given the forensic attention to detail that went with watching him, the way he's been handled has been a real puzzle.

Begs the question as to why he hasn't been played more often really.
Rodgers became more conservative in his team selection as our season imploded in front of his eyes. He plumped for 'steadier' players he felt he knew in an attempt to grind us out of this rut. It's not working so maybe he should play Lazar more and oh I dunno maybe Adam Lallana too.

ie he shit himself

i wasn't that against signing adam banana and he's a good player but i think he was and will be a really awkward siging for us. a luxury we clearly couldn't afford.

Because everytime he got on the pitch before now he was a fucking joke, all he was short of doing was stubbing out a cigar as he was subbed on he looked so unfit. Im glad hes starting to look like a player but its not like hes been unfairly under used

I reckon all our long-term signings - Moreno, Manquillo, Origi, Markovic, Can - will ultimately look good business. The problem was that because of their age for the first season at least they're basically best suited to squad roles.

What's really killing us is that the £65m spent on players for the here and fucking now has been almost totally squandered. Lambert is a waste of time, Lovren's shit, Lallana's a luxury and cost three times what he's worth, and Balotelli's the gamble we refused on Remy only at twice the price and completely unsuited to the team.

Until the Remy medical issue, I thought we'd done really well in the market. I was opposed to the Lallana signing simply for the price, but he's still a good player and I think he will repay some of his value. Had Remy had worked out though, and we'd gone on to sign someone like Shaqiri, this season would have looked VERY different. I suspect we'd have been top 4 and still in the CL.

The biggest question mark of a signing has of course been Lovren (who incidentally I backed to be a success). That said, I still think it's Rodgers' failings as a defensive coach that our defence has been so shit rather than personnel. Lovren, Sakho and Skrtel can all be good defenders if coached well.

I was surprised and excited at the way Marko took the game by the scruff of the neck last night. He was exciting, his ball control was excellent (as you'd expect coming from Serbia and playing for Porto, both exceptional technical footballing entities) and he was running through the Basel midfield like they didn't exist. It was silly to put his arm out like that but I actually doubt any contact was made - certainly if I was Rodgers I'd have been commenting to the media how the Basel player cheated with Nobel prize quality play-acting to get Marko sent off.

This is the Marko we'd seen in the video clips and that had been extolled by all who knew him. We theorised that his natural play had been severely curtailed by BR's instructions on how to play on the RW. I think we were correct and that his lack of impact to date has been BR's instructions to, and positioning of, the player.

The only disappointment was that he was only on for 15 mins. I'd have loved to have seen if he could keep that up for the full 45 mins .. if he had it could have made the difference because he certainly looked like he was the X factor we were missing.

He did well at the weekend too. I still think he's a bit of a passenger and we'll find that out when he starts tough games where we need to roll our sleeves up, but yesterday was much improved. Unfortunate sending off and shite officiating, but he shouldn't have attempted that gay bitch slap.

I justh think he thought the guy was much closer to him so he wanted to push himself some room.... Shit ref all nite anyway.

I don't have any sympathy for the sending off and I'm not going to forgive him for it any time soon. He has possession of the ball and the pace to get away, but he's deliberately slowed up and tried to make (pathetic) contact with an opposition players face. I thought he was a stupid prick at the time and I still do this morning.

That aside, he was a breath of fresh air when he came on; positiive, direct, quick feet and making the right decisions with the ball. He deserves a start against United.

It's time to play without a striker and just fit in the players who might actually make something happen. It would require Rodgers to reach down and find his bollocks.

Lallana---Sterling----Markovic
-----Coutinho---Gerrard
-------------Lucas-------------

I dont think he had any intent of hittiing him in the face at all.
The ref was awful and the play acting from the Basel cunt the same.

But the ref has got the right to send him off for raising his hand, but he should have used some common sense.

Anyway, much improved from Lazar. Hope he kicks on.

He did

Imagine having Markovic is last years team, a team that was brimming with confidence? We were waiting for Lazar to drop a bomb on us and he showed last night what he's capable of. His running power is excellent. I hope the red card doesn't set him back mentally. He should get 30 mins at least to have a go at that shaky United defense.

Can't go along with the criticism of the referee, from Rodgers or from anyone else, over the red card decision. In fact, as the rules stand I doubt the referee had any choice. It was a monumentally stupid thing to do and I hope Markovic learns from it.

That said, I was pleased with the signing in the first place and with the way he attacked the game last night while he *was* on the pitch. As others have said, I can see a number of last summer's signings coming good in time and this kid is one of them.

Agreed.

I just hope Rodgers doesn't punish him for it now.

Give him a start against Utd and tell him he needs to make amends.

If the red card is only for CL games it won't affect him soon.

For the millionth time, stop playing him on the right wing.
A few weeks ago there were a few of us pointing out that we had seen him in his pre-LFC days looking very good in a central role but for some bizarre reason Rodgers insisted on playing him wide until last night where he was given a more central role and looked much improved.

He did what we've been crying out for ... he ran at the buggers ! Our sissy lot look up, see someone in front of them and immediately pass it back to the CBs or Lucas FFS.

Maybe it's worth only using him as a sub against United, and starting him in his favoured central position against Bournemouth.
