Last pre-season game vs Bilbao

The touch to take two out of the game was brilliant. Fantastic finish with his second touch.

Kent swapping feet to take corners. The latest one with his left being typical Liverpool standard.

Dom solanke, assisting and scoring. a Threat in the air and the ground

mandem gonna be starting by seasons end

He's a highly rated young English CF. Plays with a nice intensity to his game too. I'm liking what I've seen so far.

Positives

AA is ready to start.
Firmino looked class.
Solanke - great feet and control as well as knowing where the net is. Must be #2 to Sturridge now.
Flanno moved up a gear. Still has relatively poor technique/control to most of the team though.
Gomez looks quality - when he's not cocking it up due to over-confidence.
Is Grujic ahead of Can yet ? He just might be. Excellent passing and powerful though he does concede too many FKs.
Wijnaldum - class.
Woodburn - cracking goal though needs to show a little more awareness in midfield and improve his technique/control. But ... he's 17 yrs old FFS !

Negatives

Lovren still has that goal-giving error in him. Tried to be clever instead of just putting out for a corner. How often do we say that ?
Kent continued where he left off from the last game, giving the ball away too much by trying too much or just poor passing. A quieter half for him today.
Can still looks behind the other midfielders. Lacking fitness ?
Origi totally lacking in goal scoring acumen. Pre-season sharpness ?
The Robertson/Mane partnership is naturally enough still lacking understanding. This may keep Robertson away from the starting line-up next week.
I like Ejaria but not sure he's bench-worthy as yet.

Anyone else was pretty much what you'd expect.

Grujic ahead of can!?what the fuck have you been smoking @Frogfish !?
Just over the last two games mate.

Can has done nothing but Grujic's range of accurate passing and his power is impressive. He doesn't lose anything to Can in control/technique either. As I said this could be down to a lack of fitness from Can but if judged over the last few games then I'd take Grujic for that ability to switch play from one side of the pitch to the other in an instant. Good to have in the box for corners/FKs too. He could turn out to be some player.

Grujic looks good, very good. However he's miles away from starting in central midfield ahead of a player with the experience of Can.

FWIW I'd be saying the same if Lucas was here & it was him Grujic would be starting in front of.

You can play certain players at 21 as regulars, we've all seen them, but to play in central midfield for Liverpool you need to be ultra special if you don't have those years of experience, & he's not there yet.

If we have a couple of injuries & don't buy this elusive central midfielder we crave, then he may be thrown in the deep end.

I'd hope that if/when that happens, he'll have had a lot of great cup games & some good performances coming on in league games occasionally too, so he'll have more experience & the confidence that will go along with it.

I'm not a huge Can fan most of the time (thanks to his ability to go off the boil & have a run of poor games, not to mention his really long performance drop off after injuries), but starting Grujic ahead of him right now is not realistic imo.

I've absolutely no doubt whatsoever that Klopp wouldn't pick Grujic ahead of Can. Can is clearly one of his favoured players that he rates highly and he'll want to do almost whatever it takes to get him to sign a new deal.
However what I was pointing out was that Grujic has played better than Can so far in this pre-season and has a range of passing that surprised me with his distance and accuracy. I think most of us had seen his technical ability - pretty much goes without saying for a player from the Balkans ! I also said that the current form may be a fitness issue 😉

Grujic has the balls to try a risky psss. wini plays it safe 85% of the time. Both players are needed, they just shouldn't start the same games.
