Lallana's new position

I thought Winjaldum was going to play that role given his attributes and goal scoring rate.

As for Lallana, it keeps him in the team for now. We'll have to see whether it's a long term proposition in Klopp's eyes.

Lallana played more centrally at Southampton. But I have a feeling he'll see more bench time this season.

Modo - I agree, despite being good in tight spaces - he can quite easily be shrugged aside and lose the ball. I actually think he is a weakness in our team when he tires.

Lallana will probably be rotated like others. But he'll needs to be on his toes.
His competition in midfield looked good against Arsenal and that's with Milner and Sturridge out.

Isn't Lallana a bit too lightweight to play in midfield? That first Arsenal goal also showed some lack of understanding of how to play in this position – that attempted dribble would have been OK 30 meters closer to the opponents goal, but not when losing possession meant an instant goal-scoring chance for another team.

I think he'll be a liability in a deeper role just because his tackling technique is generally a bit wild and reckless. The positioning and work rate I'm not too worried about, just accumulating cards and/or conceding pens.

Losing possession 40 yards from goal should not mean an 'instant goal scoring chance' for the opposition. We lost our defensive shape and that led to the goal.

Losing the ball when we're counter attacking usually leads to a goal scoring chance.

I think i said this what i would have tried with Lallana last season.

So i'm in favour of giving it a go and leaving the more dynamic players playing up top and out wide.

I think Lallana looks at his worst when he drops further back.

Unless he's making runs & stretching the line or running with the ball at his feet it's like the game passes him by.

Plus he's too lightweight to be throwing in the tackles I like to see a midfielder make. I think, perhaps he'll prove me wrong.

The way it's been microscopically dissected is ridiculous. Like I said in the Moreno thread, it was a mistake that shouldn't happen, but Clyne made a couple of errors too in that game, you can sort of forgive these sort of errors from these two, because you know it's unlikely to happen the following week. It was just an error of judgement but the Arsenal team we're just beyond the halfway line and still had it all to do. There are plenty of occasions where Lallana has done the same to the opposition, won the ball back and set off an attack.

There's a difference between losing it as the last man and losing it with six of your own players behind you though.
Well obviously, he should have expanded his comment about losing the ball 40 yards out then...

Lallana is perhaps the weakest player in recent memory. He gets shunted off the ball with complete ease (see the first goal against Arse). His work ethic is excellent, but he makes 50-50 balls into 95-5 balls. He needs to do serious work on strengthening up to have any hope or future in the position.
