2 new youth signings. Attacking midfielder/striker and goalie respectively. Seeing that both were linked with us earlier in the year, guess they're more of McParland/Kenny's signings/recommendations?

First linked with us in Mar 2010.

MILLWALL'S HOT goalkeeping prospect Yusuf Mersin is to stay at Millwall despite interest from a number of Premiership clubs in his services, according to Lions boss Kenny Jackett.

Jackett held talks with Liverpool last week after they expressed an interest in taking the 15 year-old into their academy, but the Lions manager revealed at a fans' forum on Thursday night that Mersin will be staying with Millwall unless he receives an "unbelievable offer" for his services.

Jackett added that he has been particularly pleased with the attitudes of Mersin and his father, both of whom have stated their intention to see the Turkish U16 international remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

The 6'4" stopper has trained with the first team in the past, including warming up with senior goalkeepers David Forde and John Sullivan before a game at the Den this season.

He was also among a youth team party that travelled to Anfield as part of a pre-season trip to the North-West last summer.

Mersin's decision to stay at Millwall is particularly pleasing given that the club have seen a number of youth prospects depart in recent years. Striker David Amoo joined Liverpool in July 2007, while Tom Kilbey and Sam Walker joined Portsmouth and Chelsea respectively two months later.

Boss Kenny Jackett is backing The Lions' rising young stars to form the backbone of successful Millwall sides of the future.
He said: "In my opinion a nucleus of home grown talent who have progressed through the ranks and have a real affinity for the club is essential to a successful team.

In our current first team we have the likes of Paul Robinson, Alan Dunne, Tony Craig and Ali Fuseini who are Millwall through and through, and the fans enjoy seeing players like that become successful at their club.

In recent years a number of promising youngsters have left Millwall before they have had the chance to fulfil their potential with us and I am determined that will not happen in the future.

This season Kiernan Hughes-Mason has joined the professional ranks and had a taste of first team football as has John Marquis who will sign a contract shortly.

Further down we have a number of very promising boys who have a real chance of making an impact at Millwall, including a 15-year-old goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin who has already been attracting attention from the Premier League.

As manager I want to see Yusuf progress with us. His family are Millwall fans, he's a local boy and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can achieve here. The chairman and I are agreed that when a player leaves this club it should be a football decision, as was the case with Zak Whitbread and Dave Martin, not purely a financial one. Scott Fitzgerald and his staff are doing an excellent job with our youngsters and I am looking forward to seeing more of them progress into our first team."

Given how confident Jackett sounded in keeping Mersin, reckon the offer's a pretty good one.

Liverpool have signed teenage goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin from Championship side Millwall for an undisclosed fee.

The 15-year-old will join the academy set-up at Anfield.

Lions chief executive Andy Ambler told the South London Press: "This has been going on a long time and we have turned down lots of offers from Premier League clubs.

"But we would find it very hard to compete with the financial clout of the top six clubs. Liverpool have chipped away and have a lot of money to spend on rebuilding their youth team.

"The money will be reinvested in the youth set-up - and we would always try to get the best deal for the club in these circumstances."

Mersin becomes the second Lions youngster to join the Reds in recent years following David Amoo's switch back in 2007.

Thanks Binny.

I am surprised young goalkeepers want to join us. We have a number of "highly rated" goalkeepers on our books.

Cheers Peekay. The local press are saying the figure is £350,000 + add ons when he turns pro, similar to the fee we paid for Amoo.

Lions boss Kenny Jackett explained: "As I have stated before, we will do everything in our power to keep our best young players.

However, in a case such as this, it is impossible ultimately to stop a boy leaving when a Premier League club such as Liverpool makes him an offer.

That being the case, we have secured financial compensation which will enable us to nurture and bring through other promising players for Millwall."

Kristoffer Peterson
Age: 16
Position: Striker
Height: 183cm
Previous clubs: Savedalens IF

Peterson's signing for Liverpool represents a massive move for both the player and his club Savedalens IF.

To put it into context, Savedalens IF currently play in the fifth tier of Swedish football (don't be fooled by the title Division Three). They have an inglorious history and their only player of note is Bertil Johansson, a striker who played for the club in the 1950s and went on to make four international appearances for Sweden. Savedalens IF finished fifth in Division Three last season, surviving on an average attendance of just 97 people.

Peterson himself has known no other club, playing for the Savedalens IF reserve side aged just 14-years-old. Having broken into the first team, he developed an excellent scoring record, hitting 24 goals in 25 games over two seasons. Nonetheless, the fact that he came to Liverpool's attention is quite an achievement in itself. Now, he is set to make the huge step up to a Premier League club.

Reports suggest that Peterson is a fast, technically gifted striker, who is particularly composed in one on one situations. He is also able to drop a little deeper 'in the hole' behind a strike partner or front two pairing. Peterson certainly did enough to impress the Liverpool coaching staff during a three week trial period earlier this year. As a result, he has now signed a three-year deal at Anfield and will join the Liverpool Academy with an eye to the future.

In Peterson, Liverpool certainly appear to have signed a very level-headed youngster. While on trial at Anfield, Peterson's agent emphasized the importance of continuing the youngster's studies and proudly announced, "We understand Liverpool are willing to offer an education package that will include school and studies."

Reports in Sweden also suggest that Peterson has agreed a deal that will allow his parents to accompany him every step of the way for the first five months of his Liverpool adventure.

His former coach at Savedalens IF, Michel Bishop also gave an insight into Peterson's temperament, revealing that the young striker could have left the club a year ago but remained at the minnows in order to develop further.

Bishop commented, "He is so mature and he will manage it just fine. Koffe (Peterson's nickname) has long been widely courted by many other clubs and he might have made a move earlier. However, I believe that it has been very good for him that he stayed an extra year in Sävedalen."

Despite Peterson's apparent level-headedness, there is no hiding his excitement at joining a club of Liverpool's stature.

He told Swedish daily Expressen, "I am no longer just toying with the dream."

Cheers Binny will be exciting to follow his progress. I like the fact he's a pacy striker for starters.

Actually he sounds like a player with the same attributes as meself a few hundred years ago.

Only better of course and Swedish.

GODS!

We have been signing 'starlets' for 6 years, give us a fucking first teamer or at least someone to sit on the bench and come on and liven us up!

We desperatly need a lift, and Roy doesn't look like he's going anywhere fast

Now, I actually know this lad and seen him play, he's the real deal. Fantastic shot stopper, great distribution and is 6''5''. Great purchase for the future. I know a lot of the other big four were looking at him. It's been on the cards for a while.

We might as well have signed Paul Merson. I'm going to guess neither will make it.

A possibility, but I'm pretty certain Yusuf will make it, a fantastic keeper. Some of the saves I've seen him pull off have been world class.

That's a bit of good news though.

Hope the other one's good too.

Meanwhile, Millwall could pocket as much as £1million from Liverpool for teenage goalkeeper Yusuf Mersin.

The 16-year-old, who has represented Turkey at under-17 level, is moving to Anfield for an initial £450,000. But add-ons could eventually land the Lions a seven-figure sum.

I thought we had an all English policy now and we were trying to drive all the foreigners out the door?

I find that most people who quack on about wanting an English manager, or a team full of English players, tend to be fucking thick twats.

Who cares?

We need great players, who understand who they play, what they represent.

It's great if they're English, even better if they're Scouse, but Gerrards, Carras and Fowlers are hard to find.

So I'm equally delighted when we find the Reinas, Didis, Riises, Alonsos and Hyypias

I agree, I wasn't alluding to it at all, I was referring to the press articles stating that the new 'regime' wanted the club to be heavily homegrown.

Agree. I couldn't care - if they're good enough, english or not, so be it.

That said, i think nabbing all the local players before they move to United and Everton is a good thing, especially with the new home grown rules.

Anyone who kicks a ball in the merseyside area should be signed up. Decide if they're shit over the following weeks/years

We could make it into a megabucks making reality show.

"Are you shit/stupid enough to play for Liverpool"

We could fund players left/right/centre.

Does anyone not think the above is hilarious? Maybe he has talent but fuck me that is some jump. 97 people? WTF.
