Konchesky

Skrtel did well yesterday, not for the first time this season. I like Kelly too, but I'd have him at LB (where he's done OK for us once or twice) in preference to anyone else we have at the moment.

Firstly, Konchesky is a better full back than Insua. But that isn't very hard, since Insua can't jump, run or turn. Yes Insua is 21 years old, but not being able to position yourself in a straight line after years of practice kind of takes the potential out of ya. And when you make Jobi fucking McAnuff look like a world star, then thats enough said tbh. Some of the performances last year was so poor it hurt.

Konchesky should never have been bought and Aurelio should never have been given a new contract. But we were skinned to the bone and no other options. Salcido has hardly set the world on fire at Fulham.

For the most part I would agree with you re: Skrtel's performance yesterday, but, and it's a big but, he gave away a few needless free kicks in dangerous areas when under no pressure. Bolton almost scored from one of them. He needs to cut that out of his game, because if Davies had managed to put his header in, we would most likely have come out of yesterdays game with nothing.

I had hoped he would be better but I don't think that Konchesky is nearly good enough to be a long term left back for us. Hopefully that is one of the positions addressed in the January window.
In the Sunderland game, after he went off injured at the thirty minuten mark, our left side improved immeasurably, and Agger by his own admission is no left back.
Not particularly great in defense, not particularly good getting forward, just not particularly good full stop.

According to Alan Green on 5live, Konch had a shocker yesterday. Kept giving the ball away. True?

Absolutely, especially in the first half where he was putting himself under pressure time and again. Second half they seemed to attack less down the right flank and his shiteness was less of an issue.

If Roy's the one spending the money in January I don't reckon we'll change things at LB. That's one of the reasons why Roy needs to go.

Konchesky will be a good enough reserve LB once ee bring in a 1st choice LB in January. I read we were linked with that Benfica Fb that everyone on here was praising throughout the World Cup.

I've been increasingly underwhelmed with Konchesky so far but I'll reserve any final judgement for a few more games as it's obvious he's got some ability.

The most important one compared to Insua is, that he got some clue about where to position himself. Insua was indeed looking like a headless chicken whenever he had to defend.

He's not better than Insua, no fucking way.

Insua was 21, had played 50 odd games in his first year, and was technically sound.

We replaced him with a 29 year old, who's fucking ordinary. A shitty makewieght that should never be playing for a Top 4 club.

And we had to pay 5M for that too.

Unfortunately, he's not playing for a top 4 club ryan.
