Kolo: Rodgers reminds me of Wenger

Kolo Touré has compared Brendan Rodgers’ managerial style to that of Arsène Wenger and insisted the Liverpool manager needs time to adapt to the demands of Champions League football.
Liverpool have not won in five matches in November and were denied a morale-boosting victory over Ludogorets on Wednesday by an 88th-minute equaliser.
The Anfield club must beat Basel on 9 December to qualify for the knockout phase.
Rodgers has come under increasing pressure during the poor run but Touré believes Liverpool must show patience with a manager who reminds him of Wenger.
The former Arsenal defender said: “This time is difficult for everybody but we need to stick together and fight for this manager because he’s one of the best managers in the Premier League. He is young as a manager and this is the first time he has managed in the Champions League. He is learning.
“I see Wenger in him because he’s so intelligent. He knows how to speak to players and how to get the best out of them. Just look at what he’s done during a short time here. When he arrived Liverpool were doing badly. He came in and brought the club a long way up. Maintaining it is more difficult than first coming up there. I think he is learning definitely. This season is a learning process but he will get there.
“He’s a fair guy who is working hard and gives 100% every day. Like Arsène, he’s always there at training trying to improve things. His style of play is also similar. He always wants us to pass the ball and keep playing which is very important.”

At least the players are sticking up for him. Mainly cos they might have just realised a new manager won't play them

15 years straight in the knock stages of the CL and never won it. I wouldn't want to be compared to that clown.

15 years straight is some record though

Agreed. Especially with limited spending for a long period as they were funding a new stadium.

I'll be glad when Wenger finally leaves Arsenal, as he'll be very difficult to replace.

They haven't had limited spending though, they spend more on wages than we do and built a new stadium. They just used their money differently to achieve 1 trophy in 10 years.

It makes you think where they would be though if they started spending money on decent players earlier..

I just don't get his stubborness. So many times it been apparent they need an X,Y,Z type player and it is his lack of activity in the transfer market that has always been their downfall..

Wenger's done a tremendous job on a relatively low outlay, he's got his issues but he's also won the league and kept them there or thereabouts. Hardly a "clown". Amazing that someone who's won the league, gets knocked so casually, while the be all and end all for some seems to be a CL win, even at the cost of never getting close to winning the league. What's the difference, really? He's hardly a clown, unlikeable maybe, but it's an easy dig.

He's also past his time Mark. As you say, hardly a clown.

He is, definitely. He's taken them as far as he can and probably should have gone about 5yrs ago, but he's a good manager and knows how to get teams playing. It's time for them and him to move on, but in his time he was a brilliant addition to the Premier League. I mean, it's thanks to him we have watched wonderful talents like Henry, Pires & Vieira, not to mention getting Bergkamp playing at his best.

He's spent a vast amount of money with one trophy to show for it in past ten years. He consistently fails to keep hold of his best players and they haven't been title contenders for a long time. The Wenger that came into the English game originally and changed it completely was a fantastic manager. The poor shadow of that man that has been treading water and underwhelming everyone involved for the past ten years is a busted flush. A good accountant for helping them pay for their soulless bowl, but for them to challenge again will take another manager. I hope he stays and they piddle along for another 20 years.

And Jeffers, Wright, Reyes, Baptista, Chamakh, Cygan, Denilson, Djourou, Gervinho, Senderos. He's bought as much shite as any other manager. They all have a hit rate of at least three turkeys for every success.

I agree about what you say about Wenger, but who's that you're referring to there?

Exaggeration, I just find it baffling that people can back Rafa one minute because of a CL win 9yrs ago, but Wenger is a clown. They've both been good managers who've probably had their day. Personally I'm just sick of Rafa being brought up as an option, if we've learned anything from Kenny, it's that you don't go back.

Unfortunately he will leave the club in a very healthy state unlike the cunt who left United.

It will be one of the best jobs available for an aspiring manager...

I think Kenny with more time could have made it work.
Rafa would have tyrned it around too if he was not sacked and replaced by Hodgson.
But most of all I think Rodgers is more than capable of turning this shit around and he is the best man to do that job. Im backing him 100%
