Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has not ruled out more signings before the end of the transfer window.

Having already spent £48.5million on the arrivals of Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Stewart Downing, Alexander Doniand Jose Enrique, there are still expected to be more arrivals at Anfield this summer.

A centre-back is thought to be a top priority and Liverpool have been linked with Stoke's Ryan Shawcross, Bolton's Gary Cahilland Birmingham's Scott Dann ahead of a 31st August transfer deadline.

Speaking in the build-up to Saturday lunchtime's match at Arsenal, Dalglish attempted to keep his cards close to his chest regarding the recruitment plans, but did not dismiss extra signings.

"Until the transfer window shuts, the most honest answer I can give is, 'I don't know'."

Quotes of the week
Asked whether Enrique could be Liverpool's final acquisition of the summer, Dalglish, who signed as manager on a permanent basis in May, is quoted as saying: "I don't know - it's the same as I don't know if that's your last question!

"I cannot answer it honestly. I suppose it's a little bit like last year when I was asked, 'when are you signing the contract?' or, 'have you been asked to sign?' - until the transfer window shuts, the most honest answer I can give is, 'I don't know'."

Potential

Meanwhile, ahead of the game against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium, Dalglish has confirmed Glen Johnson is Liverpool's only injury concern along with the recuperating Steven Gerrard.
The Scot said: "I think there is only Glen Johnson who might be a doubt, but other than that everybody's relatively fit."

Asked about the progress Gerrard is making in his rehabilitation from a groin problem, Dalglish replied: "Brilliant."

Remote Record
Enrique was one of four players making their Premier League debuts for Liverpool in last weekend's disappointing draw with Sunderland, a result which Dalglish has insisted was not due to fatigue.

And the former Newcastle full-back has impressed his new manager, who said: "He's a good player, he's got experience in the Premier League and he's settled into the way of life in England, so that's helpful to us.

"It's a position we had to strengthen. Young Jack Robinson has got fantastic potential, but we have to responsible with him. He's 17 years of age and to throw him in and expect him to play a full season would have been wrong - but he'll be there or thereabouts."

He added: "It's always helpful when you know the environment you're in and for us that was an important factor when we were looking for a full-back - somebody who has a knowledge of the game and the Premier League.

"He certainly has that. He's been here for four years, his English is good - it's better than mine and his football is better than mine as well! - so we're quite happy with the signing of Jose

With a player like Agger in the squad I guess 'relatively fit' is the best you can hope for.

PS STAY FIT AGGER, YOU ARE THE GREATEST!

if the second half wasn't due to fatigue then it must be down to the team being headless, clueless hoof merchants. I'd go with fatigue, kenny.

'brilliant!' sounds like he's hiding someting.

I think brilliant = career is not over.

When Kenny's asked about sensitive club business I don't think he gives a stuff whether what he says is credible or not, as long as he keeps things private and the club itself on an even keel. Compare for example his generous remarks about Hodgson in the aftermath of his initial appointment.

I think Gerrards injury problems are worse then they are letting on, but he is still doing brilliantly, like Kenny said.

I think that's missing the mark a bit, they haven't actually said how bad his injuries are, one way or another. His groin injury was barely mentioned, it was only when Gerrard said in interview about it that it became apparent how severe it was. They're just keeping things close to their chest that's all.

It's just worrying is all. We all heard the rumours about Stevie fearing his career was over & laughed them off, then weeks later he mentions in an interview that 98% of the groin muscle was pulled off the bone.

We then hear rumours of a massively extended lay off due to specialists not knowing exactly how to treat it, then he's admitted into hospital a week later with a suppose infection.

Yeah, it could all be sheer coincidence, but it's worrying, & whilst I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I do believe the club has a number of reasons to cast the best light on any serious injury to the club captain & talisman.

Which is the way I see it

I won't be surprised at all if Gerrard cones out and admits to being crocked.

Te way they've acted around the whole situation has nullified me, don't get me wrong, I'd still be gutted; it's just I'm half expecting bad news now.

I take all rumours about Stevie with a pinch of salt. Poor fella is hounded by them, and there was even a collection of people that insisted he was the one that had taken out the super injunction over Imogen Thomas. Not to mention the semi annual pregnancy scare with X's daughter.

As do I mate, but they're not usually backed up in any way whereas these seem to be at least to a point.

Personally I think the club were unaware how badly he was injured & what lay off there would be, & they & he were worried but now they're happy with how it's progressing. That's just guesswork though.

I don't see a reason why by this point they'd still be blagging it though when I tink about it.

I think they/he underestimated the severity of the injury but are now under the impression he'll be fine again by their September timeline.

They've got nothing to gain by being so hush hush .

I'd agree but would add that, if Kenny thought telling a porky was the best way to dampen down any speculation so that the club and the player would be left in peace to get on with the job, he'd do it without a backward glance. And rightly so.
