Kenny Dalglish 'to use Liverpool funds for single big star, not squad depth'

For once I don't care, I'm just gonna let Kenny handle it and smile. Every one else is jealous of the new strike force Kenny signed for us.

I don't get this magic for LB stuff. Sure, he can fill in there, but because he's right footed he's constantly having to come inside.

For me he plays at RB, Kelly will get enough games there and a top LB is one of our priorities.

The income from selling acquilani should fund a new LB, leaving a generous amount for our new golden god of an attacking wide player.

That stuff about Magic is based on automatic assumption instead of actual observation. It reminds me of the way people kept insisting Carra couldn't play LB even while he was doing a bang-up job for us in that position during the Treble season (and later). Defensively, both Magic and Carra position themselves better at LB (at RB they're both prone to getting isolated from their CB, over on the left less so). As far as the attacking side goes, Carra admittedly didn't go forward much (though his passing from there was much better than it ever was at RB) but Magic's attacking on the left has been fine. He's been getting crosses in (with either foot) and has even got himself into the box for the odd header. If we can find better let's by all means go for them, but I don't think it's a priority any more.

Yeah, because Magic is so confident on either foot, he really has been an excellent option out there. The fact is, that he tends to cut in from *either* side, except cutting in from the right he then is usually placed to shoot or pass with the left peg, and cutting in from the left it is on his right. I honestly think he has been equally good on left or right.

Liverpool is awesome.

Kenny is awesome.

The youngsters are brilliant and the yellow sun is shining.

So much win.

All signings we make must be players who go straight in to the first team and they wont come cheap. Key positions that must be addressed are centre back, left back, wide midfield, and (dare I say it) a long-term replacement for Gerrard.

Spearing has done ok but I'd love to see us take Rodwell off the bitters. You could build a team round him.

I'd like us to get a proven centre back in and then blood Kelly in there with him and Carra, and Flanagan to get more game time. Fullback is the position that is never going to be the difference between whether you win or lose a match, and so its perfect for ensuring those 2 get game time.

I'd be inclined to flog Glen Johnson if we can get decent money tbh.

Left back, hopefully we'll sign that Enrique who looks a decent player.

Wide midfield, we'll have to push the boat out although apparently Hazard is off to Arsenal. Reckon city will sign that Sanchez, so not sure who that leaves us with. Better not be Downing though. I'd probably plum for Mata.

johnson is an excellent player and we really should be trying to keep hold of our good players. there are a SEA of players I'd sell before getting to johnson. I think our long term replacement for gerrard is going to be conner cody, I think we should be bringing in a defensive CM before we look at bringing in an attacking CM.

think you'll be massively disappointed if you really think coady's going to replace gerrard, he's a much less dynamic and attacking player than stevie. there also still seems to be significant doubt as to whether he'll even end up as a midfielder as opposed to a centre-half. shelvey would be more like it, imo; the only other youngster who might fit the bill is jack dunn, but i'm just basing that on unsubstantiated hype, quite apart from the fact that he's just a 16 year old kid.

What would Johnson be worth today anyway ?

6/7m I reckon.

No way. National team regular, Harry around more than £10 Mill.

what were they talking about for baines? £12-15m or so wasn't it? you'd have to think him and johnson are worth roughly the same. the problem isn't so much how good he is, though, but who's actually going to go in for him, as most of the big clubs seem sorted for a RB - maybe spurs, but there seem to be doubts about their finances at the moment, or possibly some of the big european clubs.

anyway, i think we should definitely hold on to him personally. still a quality player, and versatile, RB, LB, and i still don't see why he couldn't do a job on the wing.

I'd say 13-15m.

Chelsea still need a RB like Johnson. So do City.

He's a quality player and just coz Baines et al play for some other team and we don't see them week in week out doesn't mean they're worth double he is.

Young, homegrown talent like Spearing, Flanagan and Robison (how good were they yesterday)
+ shit hot young talent like Suarez
+ relatively short contract extensions for ageing but valuable players like Kuyt
