Kenny Dalglish to be handed a two-year contract at Liverpool

But we need to stop comparing him to Hodgson as some sort of barometer Jon.

Being better than that duffer should be a given, not applauded.

Like I said - he deserves some better players, and at least a year of his own though.

Wouldn't disagree, but I think Foxy's most recent post sums the situation up pretty well. I think part of the reason for some of Kenny's picks has also been a genuine wish to give a fair chance under his new management to as many of the current squad as he can, not least so he can fully justify getting rid of the ones who end up leaving.

TBH it's not necc a bad thing. No matter how successful Kenny is, or how successful we are, there's no escaping he's no spring chicken.

This policy means when he moves on there's continuity & less, if any, need for large team/squad changes you usually see when managers come in to a club.

It's one of football's worst traits, that of a manager to feel he has to completely overhaul a team to change the style of play. In my eyes, the board should pick a man who plays football in the style the club want, so therefore already has players who can play that way at his disposal & only needs tinker with the periphery.

I agree with that and it why I wasn't opposed to the DOF position being introduced to Liverpool. We needed two or three years of rebuilding both after Evans and Houllier, and now we'll need the same under Rafa, and that's a lot of wasted years which should never have been allowed to materialise. Whether or not Comolli is the man for the job is another matter, but it's also true to say that anyone coming into this position would naturally be viewed with suspicion. After all, how many DOF's can we name between us?

With regards to our summer targets then I would submit that it's hard to be inspired by the reports, but I'm not going to pass judgement on complete rumours.

Kenny likes wingers, we haven't got one proper winger in the squad. I'll wait til after next season before making a judgement.

That said, in both our two last losses we've had to make changes at the back after 20 odd mins.

Working closely with Comolli is going to good for the club, the kind of power Benitez had was not healthy tbh.

I don't think it's too dissimilar to how things are run at other clubs, the only issue is 'how much' say Comolli has, having Directors/Chairman give the final say over transfer targets is hardly anything new really.

And besides, they can't have that strict a policy or say-so, otherwise we wouldn't be stuck with Poulsen and Konchesky now.

Kenny Dalglish believes his new-look Liverpool side have shattered the myth they are a two-man team.

The Reds boss has presided over an incredible run that has put his side on the verge of an unlikely European place.

And the team have done that largely without injured skipper Steven Gerrard or former Kop idol Fernando Torres
, who was flogged off early in the Dalglish dynasty.

In previous seasons, Liverpool fans would have waved the white flag in the absence of those two key players... because the rest of the team would appear to adopt the same policy.

But incredibly, even though Gerrard has not played for a month, the Reds have secured 30 points from their last 42 – with eight different players getting on the scoresheet in those matches. And Dalglish is impressed with the evidence that Liverpool are becoming a team unit less dependent on individuals.

I think its a wee bit shameful that he hasnt been given the job yet to be honest.

Its not like hes a wet behind the ears newbie, who we arent sure about. His record speaks for itself.

Quote from some fella on Sky earlier.
'Its taken Alex ferguson a lifetime to take over from us, it'll take Kenny two years'

If they had sacked Roy after the Wolves game (2 games earlier) we would be in the Champions league next year.

🙁

It's painful thinking about it.

I just hope that the players aren't doing the usual trick of thrashing teams at the end of the season when there is nothing left to lose. It has to be different this time!
