Kelly to Palace

This is a good deal for him.

He needs to play and he wasn't gonna get that with us. Solid player, fairly unspectacular, but can do a job in a variety of positions across the back.

If he's playing then he's worth more than 1.5M, but he's not, so good luck to him.

I thought a year or so back he looked a real good prospect, but then he got that injury and has never looked the same. I suppose 1.5mill is fair, good luck to him. Would like some sort of 'buy back' clause or sell-on clause incase he grows into a proper player.

Disappointing for all concerned.

I was convinced he was going to be a top player after watching him in the reserves and he seemed to be on course for that when he broke into the first team.

I have no idea what's happened to him since his injuries but he looks poor and is overdue a move away from Liverpool. Hope he recaptures whatever it is he's lost if possible and that we have a sell-on clause!

Seems like the perfect old stoke/Pulis player, no nonsense, big and strong. Probably an ideal fullback for them if it works out. Good luck to him, hope the injuries stay away and he gets his career on the move again.

Yep, it's a real mystery. He's such a strangely diffident soul it's hard to figure out what he really feels. He said he was fighting back but he always seemed quite fatalistic after his injury. A sad end to what once seemed such a promising career at LFC.

Wonder if Pulis will try him at center back?

He is one player i genuinely wish well at his new club, real shame about all the injuries, he looked like he was going to develop into a very good player a few years ago.

remember when he grew his hair? it was like he thought he might be a beast for a bit but then realised he wasn't and just got it cut.

If he's playing regularly, he would go for about 6-8m. 1.5m is probably a little low still, as he's probably worth around 3-4m, but I guess just getting him off the books is worth a few mill alone. I just hope we put in a decent sell on fee.

I would have inserted a 25% sell on clause and a buy back clause too.

The potential was there and if anyone can gets a players mojo back its Pulis

Pretty low fee for him if true. We could have gotten 500k for him from a club for a year long loan. Give him a year of playing every week with a premiership club and reassess the situation then.

Injuries took their toll on him. Didn't he have an illness one summer where he lost a pile of weight? I can see him moving on to another mid table club for 5 to 8 million in a few years. He'll prob have a similar career to someone like Steven Warnock.

A bit sad to see him go, like keniget I thought he was gonna fulfil his potential in the club. Too bad about the injuries though.

Palace fans seem delighted to have him though:

I'd be too if I were them. His injuries are always a risk but the hedge against that is that he can actually be a serviceable player if he's fit. Smart pick up by Pulis on the cheap. Hopefully we've put in some appearance-related clauses to bump the fee up along the way if he manages to turn out for more games.

Good luck to him!

Good deal all round.

Interesting valuation if quotes for coady are to be believed (500k). I would have valued coady more.

I thought he would stay because he would fulfill one of the 4 positions for club-trained players for the Champions League.

Good luck to him.

This gets interesting in terms of the CB race. All our CBs who could potentially be the 4th CB in the squad have been linked with departures:
- Agger (Napoli)
- Toure (Trabzonspor)
- Coates (Sampdoria)
- Ilori (Bordeaux; loan)
- Kelly (Palace)

One of these deals is not going to happen.

Could be possible that some of the deals are contingent on the other deals happening. I expect Agger, Toure and Kelly's sales to be prioritized. Depending on if they happen, IIori and Coates could stay.

Toure seems to be definitely off, as does Kelly. so that leaves Agger or Coates to leave. I'm not sure Agger has been the subject of anything concrete in terms of enquiries, and no-one seems to be trying to sign Coates.

I wouldn't be surprised if we kept Ilori - he seems keen to stay and fight for a place. With Sakho and Lovren for the left side, Skrtel, Ilori (and Lovren) for the right side of central defence, that seems a decent balance.

Good deal for Kelly - his injury came at an awful time. I also think if he were even 2 weeks ahead of regaining fitness when we went to Emirates last season, he would have gotten the nod over Flanno when Johnson got ill. That was the unexpected event that propelled Flanno into the first team, and he took it bloody well to be fair!

Would like to see Kelly at CB, looks strong in the air. Best of luck to him.

Its the right time for him to move, hes gone backwards over the last year or so and he needs games to rebuild his career, he wont get that at Liverpool because hes just not good enough at the moment. Fee is probably a little bit low but hopefully there is a sell on clause in there, good luck to him

Its a sensible move and I wish him all the best. He probably got frightened by that thread of ex players sliding into obscurity so I blame it on this site.

I think Toure will be the 4th choice CB. Hope we can sell Agger for a reasonable amount.
